Vehicle: 2020 Acura ILX Premium

Hi all,

I'm having a really annoying issue with the Bluetooth in my 2020 Acura ILX Premium. It connects fine initially, but then after a few minutes (sometimes longer, sometimes shorter), it just randomly disconnects. My phone shows it's still paired, but the car says 'Bluetooth disconnected' and I have to manually reconnect it from the infotainment screen.

It's happening with multiple phones (iPhone 13 and a Samsung Galaxy S22), so I don't think it's just my device. This is incredibly frustrating, especially when I'm using navigation or listening to music. Has anyone experienced this with their 2020 ILX? Any fixes?

Intermittent Bluetooth disconnections in your 2020 Acura ILX Premium can be a common frustration with modern infotainment systems. Here are some troubleshooting steps and potential causes:

  1. Restart Infotainment System:

    • Action: Try restarting the infotainment system. This can often be done by holding down the audio power button for several seconds until the system reboots. Sometimes a simple reset can clear temporary glitches.
  2. Forget and Re-pair Devices:

    • Action: On your phone, 'forget' the ILX from your Bluetooth settings. Then, on the ILX's infotainment system, delete all paired phones. After both are cleared, try pairing your phone again from scratch.
  3. Check Phone Settings:

    • Action: Ensure your phone's operating system is up to date. Also, check for any power-saving modes on your phone that might be aggressively closing Bluetooth connections in the background.
  4. Infotainment Software Update:

    • Cause: Like any computer, your car's infotainment system runs on software that can have bugs or require updates for better compatibility with newer phones.
    • Action: Contact your Acura dealership. They can check if there are any available software updates for your ILX's infotainment system that might address Bluetooth stability issues.
  5. Interference:

    • Cause: While less common, other wireless devices or even certain charging cables can sometimes cause interference.
    • Action: Try testing the Bluetooth connection with all other devices (like smartwatches, other phones) disconnected and no USB cables plugged in.

When to See a Shop: If you've tried all the above steps and the problem persists, it's advisable to take your ILX to an Acura dealership. There might be an issue with the car's Bluetooth module itself, which would require professional diagnosis and potentially a replacement.
