Vehicle: 2022 Acura Integra A-Spec

Hey everyone,

I've been having an intermittent but very annoying problem with my 2022 Acura Integra A-Spec. Sometimes, when I try to start the car using the push-button start, I get a 'Key Fob Not Detected' message on the dash. I've replaced the battery in both of my key fobs, but the issue still pops up.

It usually takes a few tries, or I have to hold the fob right up to the start button, for it to finally recognize it. This is happening with both fobs, so I don't think it's a bad fob battery anymore. Is there a known issue with the keyless entry system or the immobilizer on the 2022 Integra?

Any thoughts on what could be causing this or how to fix it would be great!

ClearTheCode admin answer:

The 'Key Fob Not Detected' message in your 2022 Acura Integra, even after replacing fob batteries, points to an issue with the vehicle's keyless access system or immobilizer. This system relies on multiple antennas and modules to detect the fob's presence.

Steps to Diagnose/Troubleshoot:

  1. Test Fob in Different Locations: Try starting the car with the fob in different positions inside the cabin (e.g., cup holder, on the dash, in your pocket). This can sometimes indicate a weak signal or a dead spot.
  2. Check for Interference: Ensure there are no other electronic devices (phones, tablets, other key fobs) near the push-button start or in the cabin that could be causing interference.
  3. Inspect Vehicle Battery: Although less common if the car starts eventually, a weak 12V car battery can sometimes cause issues with sensitive electronics like the keyless entry system.
  4. Check for DTCs: The vehicle's immobilizer or smart entry control unit may have stored diagnostic trouble codes (e.g., B1000, B1001 related to immobilizer system, or B1005 related to key fob communication).

Causes:

  • Weak Vehicle Battery: A low 12V car battery can affect the range and reliability of the keyless entry system.
  • Interference: External electronic interference or even internal vehicle electronics can disrupt the fob's signal.
  • Faulty Smart Entry Receiver/Antenna: The vehicle has multiple antennas to detect the fob's location. One or more could be faulty or have loose connections.
  • Faulty Smart Entry Control Unit: The main module responsible for processing the key fob's signal.
  • Software Glitch: A rare software issue in the smart entry system.

When to See a Shop: If the issue persists with both fobs and after checking for interference, it's best to take your 2022 Acura Integra to an Acura dealership. They have specialized diagnostic equipment to read codes from the smart entry and immobilizer systems, test the signal strength from the vehicle's antennas, and determine if a module or antenna needs replacement. This is a complex system, and DIY fixes are generally not recommended beyond battery replacement.
