Vehicle: 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec w/ Technology Package

My new 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec with Technology Package is having issues with its driver-assist systems. The Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) frequently show as "unavailable" on the dash. It happens randomly, sometimes on clear days, and it's frustrating not being able to rely on these features.

I've tried cleaning the windshield in front of the camera, and the radar sensor area in the grille seems clear. It's a brand new car, so I'm surprised to be having these kinds of electrical problems already. Is this a common issue with the new Integra, or could it be a sensor problem?

Intermittent unavailability of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) like LKAS and ACC on a new 2023 Acura Integra can be frustrating. These systems rely on a network of sensors and modules, and a fault in any part can cause the entire system to become unavailable. Here's what's typically involved:

  1. Front Camera/Radar Sensor Obstruction: While you've cleaned the visible areas, even minor condensation, glare, or a very subtle obstruction (like a small bug or road grime) can temporarily blind the camera or radar. Ensure the windshield area in front of the camera (near the rearview mirror) and the radar sensor in the lower grille are spotless.
  2. Sensor Misalignment/Calibration: If the vehicle has had any minor impact, even a curb bump, it could potentially knock a sensor out of alignment. ADAS systems require precise calibration. A new vehicle shouldn't have this issue unless there was a factory defect or a very early impact.
  3. Wiring or Connector Issues: The sensors (camera, radar) and their respective control modules are connected via complex wiring harnesses. A loose or faulty connection can cause intermittent communication errors, leading to system unavailability.
  4. Software Glitch: As a newer model, there might be software updates available for the ADAS control modules that address known bugs or improve system stability. This is a common fix for intermittent electronic issues.
  5. Faulty Sensor or Module: In some cases, a sensor (like the front camera or radar unit) or an associated control module could be defective, causing the intermittent failures.
  6. OBD-II Codes: A diagnostic scan will often reveal specific ADAS-related codes. Examples include:
    • U0300: Internal Control Module Software Incompatibility
    • C1000: Forward Camera Malfunction
    • C1001: Radar Sensor Malfunction

When to See a Shop: Given that your Integra is new and these are critical safety features, it's imperative to take it to an authorized Acura dealership immediately. They have the specialized diagnostic equipment and training to accurately diagnose ADAS issues, check for software updates, and perform any necessary sensor calibrations or replacements under warranty.
