Vehicle: 2024 Acura Integra A-Spec Technology Package

Hey everyone,

I just got my 2024 Acura Integra A-Spec Technology Package a few months ago, and I'm already having an issue with the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). Sometimes, while driving, I get a warning message on the dash saying 'ACC/LKAS System Malfunction' and the systems become unavailable.

It's intermittent; sometimes it works fine for days, then suddenly throws the error. I've made sure the front radar sensor (behind the Acura emblem) and the windshield camera are clean and free of obstructions. I haven't had any accidents or bumps. It's really concerning on a brand new car.

Has anyone else with a new Integra experienced this? What could be causing this on such a new vehicle? Thanks for any insights!

ClearTheCode admin answer:

It's definitely concerning to experience issues with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like ACC and LKAS on a brand-new 2024 Acura Integra. These systems are complex and rely on multiple sensors and modules working in harmony.

Here are the most common reasons for such malfunctions, even in new vehicles:

  1. Sensor Obstruction (Even Minor): While you've checked for obvious obstructions, sometimes even a thin layer of road grime, ice, or condensation on the radar sensor or camera lens can interfere. Also, ensure no aftermarket accessories (like a front license plate frame) are blocking the radar.

  2. Software Glitch: As with any sophisticated electronic system, a software bug or a temporary communication error between modules can trigger a fault. A simple power cycle (turning the car off and on) sometimes temporarily resolves this.

  3. Sensor Misalignment: Even a very slight misalignment of the front radar sensor or windshield camera can cause the system to malfunction. This could happen during manufacturing or if the vehicle experienced a minor jolt.

  4. Wiring or Connector Issue: Intermittent issues often point to a loose or corroded electrical connection within the ADAS wiring harness or at a sensor/module. This can cause data packets to be dropped, leading to a system fault.

  5. Module Failure: Less common on a new vehicle, but a control module for the ACC/LKAS system could have an internal defect.

When to See a Shop:

Given that your 2024 Acura Integra is brand new and the issue is intermittent, it's crucial to have this professionally diagnosed. Do not attempt to fix ADAS issues yourself, as they are critical safety systems. Take your vehicle to an Acura dealership immediately. They have the specialized tools and training to:

  • Read specific ADAS diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), which are often proprietary and not accessible with generic OBD-II scanners (e.g., codes related to radar sensor performance or camera calibration).
  • Perform precise sensor calibrations.
  • Inspect all relevant wiring and connectors.
  • Update software or replace faulty components under warranty.

Document when and where the malfunction occurs, as this information can help the technician diagnose the problem more efficiently.
