Vehicle: 2024 Acura Integra A-Spec

Hi all,

I just got my 2024 Acura Integra A-Spec a few months ago, and I'm already having a weird issue. Occasionally, I get a warning message on the dash saying 'Lane Keep Assist System Problem' and 'Adaptive Cruise Control System Problem'. Sometimes the Check Engine Light also flashes briefly with these, but then goes away.

It's very intermittent. It seems to happen more often in certain weather conditions, like heavy rain or when there's a lot of glare, but not always. I've tried cleaning the front radar sensor area and the camera on the windshield, but it hasn't made a difference.

There are no persistent codes, and the car drives fine otherwise. Is this a known issue with the new Integra, or could it be a sensor going bad? Any thoughts on what might be causing these advanced safety system warnings?

ClearTheCode admin answer:

Intermittent warnings for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like Lane Keep Assist (LKAS) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) on a new 2024 Acura Integra A-Spec can be concerning, especially when accompanied by a brief Check Engine Light. These systems rely on a complex network of sensors, cameras, and radar units, and a fault in any part of this network can trigger warnings.

Common Causes for Intermittent ADAS Warnings:

  • Environmental Factors: As you noted, heavy rain, fog, snow, or even direct sunlight/glare can temporarily obstruct the front camera or radar sensor, causing the system to disengage and display a warning. This is often normal behavior for safety.
  • Sensor Obstruction/Damage: Even if you've cleaned it, dirt, ice, or even a small stone chip on the windshield (affecting the camera) or the front bumper (affecting the radar) can cause issues. Misalignment of these sensors after a minor bump can also be a factor.
  • Wiring/Connector Issues: Loose or corroded wiring harnesses or connectors to the camera, radar unit, or associated control modules can cause intermittent communication errors.
  • Software Glitches: As with any complex electronic system, software bugs or calibration issues can lead to false warnings. Updates are sometimes released to address these.
  • Faulty Sensor/Module: While less common on a brand new vehicle, a sensor (camera, radar) or a control module could be intermittently failing.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Thorough Visual Inspection: Carefully inspect the front of the vehicle for any damage to the radar unit (behind the Acura emblem) and the windshield area around the camera (behind the rearview mirror). Ensure no aftermarket accessories are blocking these areas.
  2. Note Conditions: Keep a detailed log of when the warnings occur: specific weather, speed, road conditions, time of day. This data is invaluable for diagnosis.
  3. Check for Recalls/TSBs: Sometimes manufacturers issue recalls or Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) for known ADAS issues.

When to See a Shop:

Since your vehicle is brand new and experiencing these intermittent issues, it's best to take your 2024 Integra A-Spec to an authorized Acura dealership. They have the specialized tools and training to diagnose ADAS problems:

  • Advanced Diagnostic Scan: They can use the Honda/Acura Diagnostic System (HDS) to pull specific ADAS-related diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that a generic scanner cannot access, even if the CEL is brief.
  • Sensor Calibration: They can check the calibration of the front camera and radar unit. Sometimes these need recalibration, especially if the windshield was replaced or after a minor impact.
  • Software Updates: They can check for and apply any available software updates for the ADAS control modules.
  • Wiring and Component Testing: They can thoroughly test the wiring harnesses and the sensors themselves to pinpoint any intermittent faults.

Do not ignore these warnings, as they indicate a potential compromise in your vehicle's safety features.
