Vehicle: 2024 Acura Integra A-Spec CVT

Hello fellow Integra owners,

I've got a 2024 Acura Integra A-Spec with the CVT, and I'm experiencing a really frustrating issue. Sometimes, after I refuel the car, it's incredibly hard to start. I have to crank it for a long time, and even then, it often stalls immediately after starting. If I manage to get it going, it runs rough for a minute or two before smoothing out.

This doesn't happen every time I fill up, but it's frequent enough to be a major annoyance and concern. The car only has about 8,000 miles on it. There's no check engine light on, but it feels like something is definitely wrong with the fuel system.

Has anyone else with a newer Integra experienced this? What could be the cause of this post-refuel hard start and stalling?

Hi Emily K.,

Experiencing hard starts and stalling specifically after refueling your 2024 Acura Integra A-Spec is a classic symptom often associated with the evaporative emission (EVAP) control system, particularly the purge valve.

Here's a breakdown of potential causes:

  1. EVAP Purge Valve Malfunction: This is the most common culprit for your described symptoms. The purge valve controls the flow of fuel vapors from the charcoal canister into the engine's intake manifold to be burned. If this valve gets stuck open, especially after refueling, it can allow too much fuel vapor into the engine, essentially 'flooding' it and making it hard to start. This can also cause a rich condition and rough running until the excess vapor is cleared.
  2. Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor: A faulty fuel tank pressure sensor could send incorrect readings to the ECU, affecting fuel delivery during startup, especially after the fuel tank has been disturbed by refueling.
  3. Fuel Pump/Fuel Pressure Regulator: While less likely to be directly tied to refueling, a weak fuel pump or a failing fuel pressure regulator could contribute to hard starts if the system isn't maintaining adequate pressure. However, the specific 'after refuel' aspect points more strongly to the EVAP system.
  4. Loose or Faulty Gas Cap: Although less common on newer vehicles, a loose or faulty gas cap can sometimes affect EVAP system integrity, though it usually triggers a 'Check Fuel Cap' message or a CEL.

When to See a Shop: Even without a check engine light, this issue needs professional attention. Take your 2024 Integra to an Acura dealership as soon as possible. They can perform a diagnostic scan for pending EVAP system codes (e.g., P0440, P0441, P0455) and conduct specific tests on the EVAP purge valve and other related components. Since your vehicle is so new and under warranty, this repair should be covered. Do not delay, as EVAP system issues can sometimes lead to more significant drivability problems or emissions failures.
