Vehicle: 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec w/ Technology Package

Hello Integra owners,

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec with the Technology Package. Recently, I've been getting an intermittent 'LKAS System Malfunction' warning message on my dash. It seems to pop up randomly, sometimes when I start the car, other times while driving on the highway.

When the warning is active, the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) obviously doesn't work, and I've also noticed that the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) might not be functioning either. The warning usually clears itself after the car is turned off for a while, but it always comes back.

I've checked the front of the car for any obvious obstructions on the camera or radar sensor, but everything looks clean. Has anyone else encountered this with their Integra? What was the fix?

The 'LKAS System Malfunction' warning on your 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec with Technology Package indicates an issue with the vehicle's advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS). These systems rely on a network of sensors and cameras, and a fault in any part can trigger a warning.

Here are the common causes:

  1. Sensor Blockage or Damage:

    • Front Camera: The camera located at the top of the windshield is crucial for LKAS. Dirt, debris, ice, or even a crack in the windshield obstructing the camera's view can cause this warning. Ensure the windshield is clean and free of damage in that area.
    • Radar Sensor: The radar unit, typically located behind the Acura emblem or in the lower grille, is vital for ACC and other collision mitigation features. Physical damage or even severe dirt/ice can cause malfunctions.
  2. Sensor Calibration Issues:

    • If the vehicle has had any front-end work, windshield replacement, or even a minor bump, the ADAS sensors may require recalibration. This is a precise process that needs specialized equipment.
  3. Electrical or Software Glitches:

    • Intermittent electrical connections to the sensors or a software bug in the ADAS control module can trigger false warnings. A simple battery reset (disconnecting the negative terminal for 15 minutes) can sometimes clear minor electrical glitches, but be aware this may reset other vehicle settings.
  4. Wiring Harness Damage:

    • Less common, but damaged wiring leading to the sensors can disrupt communication and cause system failures.

When to See a Shop: Given that ADAS systems are critical for safety and require specialized diagnostic tools and calibration equipment, it is highly recommended to take your Integra to an Acura dealership as soon as possible. They can retrieve specific Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) related to the LKAS, ACC, and other ADAS modules, pinpointing the exact sensor or module causing the issue. Attempting to drive with malfunctioning safety features is not advisable.
