Vehicle: 2024 Acura Integra A-Spec

Hey everyone, I'm a new owner of a 2024 Acura Integra A-Spec with the manual transmission, and I've only got about 15,000 miles on it. Lately, I've noticed a rough idle, especially when the car is warmed up and sitting at a stoplight. It feels like a slight vibration and the RPMs fluctuate a tiny bit.

Yesterday, the Check Engine Light came on, and when I scanned it, I got multiple misfire codes: P0301 (Cylinder 1 Misfire) and P0303 (Cylinder 3 Misfire). There's also an occasional slight hesitation during acceleration.

What could be causing misfires on such a new car? Should I be worried? Any initial checks I can do before taking it to the dealership?

ClearTheCode admin answer:

It's certainly concerning to experience misfire codes and a rough idle on a relatively new 2024 Acura Integra A-Spec with only 15,000 miles. A misfire means one or more cylinders are not contributing power correctly, which can be due to issues with spark, fuel, or compression. The P0301 and P0303 codes specifically point to misfires in cylinders 1 and 3.

Common Causes for Misfires (especially on newer vehicles):

  1. Spark Plugs: While 15,000 miles is early for spark plug failure, a defective plug from the factory or one that has fouled prematurely can cause misfires. Ensure they are the correct type and gapped properly.
  2. Ignition Coils: Each cylinder has its own ignition coil. A faulty coil (or coils, given you have two misfire codes) can fail to provide sufficient spark, leading to misfires. This is a common failure point.
  3. Fuel Injectors: Clogged or faulty fuel injectors for cylinders 1 and 3 could be delivering too little or too much fuel, disrupting combustion. Poor fuel quality can sometimes contribute to this.
  4. Vacuum Leaks: Leaks in the intake manifold or vacuum lines can allow unmetered air into the engine, leaning out the air-fuel mixture and causing misfires, especially at idle.
  5. PCV System Issues: A clogged or faulty PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve can affect engine vacuum and lead to misfires.
  6. Engine Control Module (ECM) Issues: Less common, but a faulty ECM could misinterpret sensor readings or incorrectly command fuel/spark.
  7. Low Compression: In rare cases on a new engine, an internal engine issue (like a faulty valve or piston ring) could lead to low compression in a cylinder, causing a misfire. This would be a more serious concern.

When to See a Shop:

Given your Integra is a 2024 model with low mileage, it is almost certainly still under factory warranty. Your best course of action is to take it to an Acura dealership immediately. Do not attempt extensive DIY diagnostics that could potentially void your warranty or cause further issues. The dealership will have the specialized tools and expertise to diagnose and repair this under warranty.

Initial Checks You Can Do (Carefully):

  1. Check Fuel Cap: Ensure it's tightly sealed. While unlikely to cause misfires, a loose cap can trigger a CEL.
  2. Fuel Quality: Consider if you recently filled up at a different station. If so, try using a premium fuel from a reputable brand for your next fill-up.
  3. Visual Inspection: Briefly check for any obvious loose wires or vacuum hoses around the engine, but avoid disconnecting anything.

Since you have specific misfire codes, the dealership will likely start by swapping ignition coils between cylinders to see if the misfire moves, which helps pinpoint a faulty coil. They will also check spark plugs, fuel injector operation, and perform comprehensive diagnostic tests.
