Vehicle: 2019 Acura MDX A-Spec

Hello MDX owners,

My 2019 Acura MDX A-Spec has been having persistent problems with the infotainment system. The screen frequently freezes, becoming completely unresponsive to touch or the lower control knob. This happens randomly, sometimes while driving, sometimes right after startup.

When it freezes, Apple CarPlay also disconnects or fails to launch. The only way to fix it is to turn the car off, open the door, wait, and restart, which is really annoying and unsafe while driving.

Is this a known issue for the 2019 models? Any quick fixes or advice before I take it to the dealer?

Infotainment system glitches, including freezing screens and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity issues, are fairly common across various vehicle manufacturers, including the 2019 Acura MDX.

  1. Soft Reset: Try performing a soft reset of the infotainment system. On many Acura models, you can do this by holding down the audio power button (volume knob) for about 5-10 seconds until the system reboots. This can often clear temporary software glitches.
  2. Check USB Cable/Port: If the issue is primarily with Apple CarPlay, try using a different, high-quality USB cable. Faulty cables are a very common cause of connectivity problems. Also, inspect the USB port for any debris or damage.
  3. System Software Update: Your MDX's infotainment system may have an available software update. These updates often address bugs and improve system stability. An Acura dealership can check for and apply any pending updates.
  4. Check Fuses: While less likely for intermittent freezing, a loose or faulty fuse related to the audio/infotainment system could contribute. Consult your owner's manual for the relevant fuse box location and fuse numbers to inspect.

When to See a Shop: If the soft reset, cable check, and fuse inspection do not resolve the issue, or if the freezing becomes more frequent and severe, it's best to schedule an appointment with your Acura dealership. They have specialized diagnostic tools to pinpoint whether the problem is software-related, a faulty head unit, or a wiring issue. They can also perform more comprehensive system diagnostics and updates that aren't user-accessible.
