Vehicle: 2017 Acura NSX

My 2017 Acura NSX is showing a hybrid system warning light, and I've noticed a significant drop in power. It feels like the car isn't using its electric motors properly, especially during acceleration.

I've checked the basic fluid levels, but everything seems okay. The car has about 35,000 miles on it. Has anyone else experienced this issue with their NSX?

I'm worried it's a major battery issue or something complex with the hybrid powertrain. Any advice on what to check or if this is a common problem would be greatly appreciated.

A hybrid system warning light combined with reduced power in your 2017 Acura NSX is a serious indicator that requires immediate attention. This often points to an issue within the high-voltage hybrid battery system or its associated components.

  1. Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs): A professional scan tool will likely reveal specific OBD-II codes. Common codes for hybrid system issues include:
    • P0AA6: Hybrid Battery Voltage System Isolation Fault
    • P0AA7: Hybrid Battery Voltage System Isolation Sensor Circuit Low
    • P0AFA: Hybrid Battery System Voltage Low These codes indicate a potential problem with the hybrid battery's insulation, voltage, or overall health.
  2. Possible Causes:
    • Degradation or failure of individual hybrid battery cells.
    • Issues with the Battery Management System (BMS) that monitors and controls the hybrid battery.
    • Faults in the high-voltage cabling or connectors.
    • Problems with the DC-DC converter or inverter.
    • Less commonly, a failing 12V auxiliary battery can sometimes trigger hybrid system warnings due to communication errors.
  3. When to See a Shop:
    • Immediately. Driving with a hybrid system warning, especially with reduced power, can potentially worsen the problem or lead to complete system shutdown. The high-voltage system can also pose a safety risk if compromised.
    • Your Acura dealership or a specialized hybrid vehicle repair shop is best equipped to diagnose and repair these complex systems. They have the necessary diagnostic tools and safety training for high-voltage components. Do not attempt to diagnose or repair high-voltage components yourself.

Ensure your vehicle is inspected by a qualified technician as soon as possible to prevent further damage and ensure your safety.
