Vehicle: 2019 Acura NSX

I've got a 2019 Acura NSX and lately, the 9-speed DCT has been acting up. I'm experiencing some pretty rough shifts, especially from 2nd to 3rd gear, and occasionally a noticeable jerk when downshifting. It's not smooth like it used to be.

Sometimes there's a slight delay before it engages a gear, which is concerning. I'm worried about the longevity of the transmission. Is this a known issue for the NSX, or could it be a sign of a bigger problem? No warning lights yet, but the feeling is definitely off.

ClearTheCode admin answer:

  1. Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) Characteristics: While DCTs can sometimes feel different than traditional automatics, persistent rough shifting, jerking, or delayed engagement in your 2019 Acura NSX are not normal and indicate a potential problem.
  2. Potential Causes: These symptoms can stem from several issues:
    • Low or Contaminated Transmission Fluid: Incorrect fluid levels or degraded fluid can significantly impact DCT performance.
    • Software Glitches: The transmission control module (TCM) might require a software update or recalibration.
    • Clutch Pack Wear: Over time, the clutch packs can wear, leading to slipping or rough engagement.
    • Mechatronics Unit Failure: This complex unit controls the shifting and clutch engagement and can fail.
    • Sensor Malfunctions: Speed sensors or other transmission sensors can provide incorrect data, leading to erratic shifts.
  3. OBD Codes to Look For: While you haven't seen a light, a scan tool might reveal pending codes like P0700 (Transmission Control System Malfunction), P0715 (Input/Turbine Speed Sensor A Circuit Malfunction), or codes specific to clutch engagement or gear ratios.
  4. When to See a Shop: Given the complexity and precision of the NSX's 9-speed DCT, it's highly recommended to take your vehicle to an authorized Acura dealership immediately. They have specialized diagnostic tools and expertise to properly assess and repair DCT issues. Continuing to drive with these symptoms could lead to further damage and more costly repairs.
