Vehicle: 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec

Hello everyone,

I'm having an issue with the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) on my relatively new 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec, which has only about 10,000 miles. Lately, I've been getting a 'LKAS Malfunction' warning light on the dash, and the system either won't engage at all, or it will engage and then randomly disengage with the warning light popping up.

This is part of the AcuraWatch suite, and it's concerning that it's acting up so soon. I've tried cleaning the windshield where the camera is located, but that hasn't made a difference. Has anyone else with a 2023 Integra experienced problems with their LKAS or other AcuraWatch features?

An 'LKAS Malfunction' light on your 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec indicates an issue with the Lane Keeping Assist System, which relies on the front camera and radar sensors. Given it's a new vehicle, here's what to investigate:

  1. Sensor/Camera Obstruction: While you've cleaned the windshield, ensure there's no dirt, ice, snow, or even a bug splat directly on the camera lens (located behind the rearview mirror) or the radar sensor (behind the Acura emblem in the grille). Even a small obstruction can cause issues.
  2. Environmental Factors: LKAS can be temporarily affected by heavy rain, fog, direct sunlight, or poor lane markings. If the issue is constant regardless of conditions, it's likely not environmental.
  3. Sensor Calibration: If the front camera or radar sensor has been bumped or misaligned (e.g., from a minor impact, even a pothole), it may need recalibration. This is a common requirement after windshield replacement as well.
  4. Software Glitch: Similar to infotainment systems, the AcuraWatch suite relies on complex software. A minor software bug or corruption could cause intermittent malfunctions. A software update from the dealership might resolve this.
  5. Wiring or Connector Issues: Loose or damaged wiring or connectors to the camera or radar unit can cause intermittent communication errors, leading to malfunctions.
  6. Module Failure: In rare cases, the camera unit, radar unit, or the control module itself could be faulty and require replacement.

Diagnostics:

  • An Acura dealership will use a specialized diagnostic tool to read specific 'C' (Chassis) or 'U' (Network Communication) codes related to the AcuraWatch system. Common codes might include:
    • C1A60: LKAS Camera Malfunction
    • U0300: Software Incompatibility with Control Module
    • C1A00: Radar Sensor Malfunction
  • They can also perform a sensor calibration using specific targets and software.

When to see a shop:

  • Given the vehicle's age and the safety-critical nature of the system, it's highly recommended to take your 2023 Integra to an Acura dealership immediately. They have the necessary diagnostic equipment and expertise to accurately pinpoint the cause of the LKAS malfunction, perform any required calibrations, or replace faulty components under warranty.
