Vehicle: 2020 Acura RDX Technology Package

Hello Acura community,

I'm having persistent issues with the infotainment system in my 2020 Acura RDX Technology Package. The screen frequently freezes, becomes unresponsive to the True Touchpad Interface, and then often restarts itself completely. This happens randomly, sometimes multiple times during a short drive.

It's really frustrating, especially when I'm relying on navigation or trying to change audio sources. I've tried doing a soft reset (holding down the audio power button), but the problem always comes back. Is this a known issue for the 2020 RDX? What could be causing this?

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated before I head to the dealership.

Infotainment system glitches like freezing and restarting are not uncommon across various modern vehicles, including the 2020 Acura RDX. These issues often point to software bugs, hardware malfunctions within the head unit, or connectivity problems.

Steps to Diagnose/Troubleshoot:

  1. Check for Software Updates: Ensure your RDX's infotainment system software is up to date. Dealerships can check for and install the latest firmware updates, which often resolve known bugs.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset: Disconnect the car's negative battery terminal for 10-15 minutes, then reconnect it. This can sometimes clear temporary electrical gremlins affecting modules.
  3. Check for Related TSBs: Acura may have Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) related to infotainment issues for your specific model year. A dealership can check for these.
  4. Inspect USB Ports: Ensure no faulty USB devices are connected that might be interfering with the system.

Causes:

  • Software bugs or outdated firmware in the infotainment control unit.
  • Overheating of the head unit's internal components.
  • Loose or corroded electrical connections to the infotainment system.
  • Faulty internal hardware within the head unit itself.
  • Interference from connected devices or a failing component on the CAN bus.

When to See a Shop: If software updates and hard resets don't resolve the issue, or if the problem persists and makes the system unusable, it's crucial to visit an Acura dealership. They have specialized diagnostic tools to scan the infotainment system for fault codes (e.g., U0121, U0140, U0164 related to communication errors) and can perform more in-depth diagnostics. They may need to replace the head unit or a related module if a hardware fault is confirmed. This is especially important as the infotainment system is integrated with many vehicle functions.
