Vehicle: 2020 Acura RDX A-Spec

Hi all,

My 2020 Acura RDX A-Spec has been driving me crazy with its infotainment system. It frequently freezes up, especially when I'm using Apple CarPlay. The screen becomes unresponsive, and sometimes the whole system just reboots itself while I'm driving. It's super annoying when I'm relying on navigation or music.

I've tried restarting the car, disconnecting my phone, and even doing a factory reset on the infotainment system, but the problems keep coming back. Is this a common issue for 3rd gen RDX owners? Are there any known fixes or software updates I should be aware of?

ClearTheCode admin answer:

  1. Common Issue: Infotainment system glitches, freezing, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto disconnects are relatively common complaints for 2019-2020 Acura RDX models. These issues often stem from software bugs or hardware communication problems within the system.

  2. Check for Software Updates: Acura has released several software updates for the RDX's infotainment system to address these types of bugs. Your dealership can check if your vehicle's system is running the latest software version and perform an update if needed. These updates often improve stability and connectivity.

  3. Troubleshooting Steps: Before visiting the dealer, ensure your phone's operating system is up to date. Try using a different, high-quality USB cable for CarPlay/Android Auto, as faulty cables can cause connection issues. Also, try deleting your phone from the car's Bluetooth/CarPlay settings and re-pairing it.

  4. Causes: Potential causes include software bugs in the infotainment unit, issues with the USB port or cable, conflicts with specific phone models or app versions, or in rare cases, a faulty head unit hardware component.

  5. When to See a Shop: If software updates and basic troubleshooting don't resolve the issue, it's time to visit an Acura dealership. They have specialized diagnostic tools to check for internal system errors, perform deeper software diagnostics, and, if necessary, recommend a replacement of the infotainment head unit under warranty if a hardware fault is detected. Ensure you can demonstrate the issue to them.
