Vehicle: 2020 Acura RLX Advance

Hey everyone,

I've been having some frustrating issues with the infotainment system in my 2020 Acura RLX Advance. The screen frequently freezes, especially when I'm using Apple CarPlay. Sometimes the whole system just locks up, and I have to restart the car to get it working again. Other times, CarPlay disconnects randomly, or the audio cuts out.

It's really annoying, especially on longer drives. I've tried restarting my phone and using different USB cables, but the problem persists. Is this a known issue with the 2020 RLX or the Acura infotainment system in general?

Any tips or similar experiences would be helpful! Thanks.

Infotainment system glitches, including freezing screens and Apple CarPlay issues, are common complaints across many modern vehicles, and your 2020 Acura RLX Advance is not immune. Here's a breakdown of potential causes and solutions:

  1. Software Bugs: The most frequent cause of such issues is software bugs within the infotainment system's operating software. Manufacturers often release updates to address these. Your dealership can check if there are any pending software updates for your specific head unit.
  2. Phone/Cable Issues: While you've tried different cables and restarting your phone, it's worth re-emphasizing using only high-quality, MFi-certified (Made for iPhone) USB cables. Cheap or damaged cables are a common culprit for intermittent CarPlay connectivity. Also, ensure your iPhone's iOS is fully updated.
  3. Overheating: Prolonged use or high ambient temperatures can sometimes cause the infotainment unit to overheat, leading to temporary freezes or malfunctions. While less common, it's a possibility.
  4. Loose Connections: Internal wiring or connections to the infotainment unit could be loose, causing intermittent signal loss or power issues. This usually requires professional inspection.
  5. Hardware Failure: In rarer cases, the infotainment head unit itself might be faulty and require replacement. This is typically a last resort after exhausting all software and connectivity checks.

Diagnostics: There aren't typically standard OBD-II codes for infotainment glitches unless it's a deeper system communication error. However, Acura dealerships have proprietary diagnostic tools that can access the infotainment system's internal logs and check for specific error messages or pending software updates.

When to see a shop: Since you've tried basic troubleshooting, it's best to schedule an appointment with your Acura dealership. They can perform a diagnostic scan, check for and apply any available software updates, and thoroughly inspect the system. Be prepared to demonstrate the issue if it's intermittent, or provide clear details on when and how it occurs.
