2017 TLX 9-Speed Transmission Shifting Rough and Hesitating

Hey everyone,

I'm experiencing some really frustrating issues with the 9-speed automatic transmission in my 2017 Acura TLX V6 Advance. Lately, it's been shifting very roughly, especially at lower speeds and when downshifting. There's a noticeable hesitation when accelerating from a stop or after slowing down.

It feels like the car is struggling to find the right gear, and sometimes there's a jolt. I've heard about some common problems with these ZF transmissions. Is this something others have dealt with? What should I be looking for or asking my mechanic to check?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated before I take it to the dealer.

Summary: For 2017 TLX 9-Speed Transmission Shifting Rough and Hesitating, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
