Vehicle: 2020 Acura TLX A-Spec

My 2020 Acura TLX A-Spec has been having some annoying issues with its infotainment system lately. The screen occasionally freezes completely, becoming unresponsive to touch or button presses. It usually requires me to turn the car off and on again to get it working.

More frustratingly, Apple CarPlay keeps disconnecting randomly. I'll be navigating or listening to music, and suddenly it just drops out. My phone is connected via USB, and I've tried different cables, but the problem persists.

Is this a common issue with the 2020 TLX? Any quick fixes or known software updates I should be aware of?

Infotainment system glitches, including screen freezing and Apple CarPlay disconnections, are not uncommon across various modern vehicles, including the 2020 Acura TLX A-Spec. Here's a troubleshooting guide:

  1. Soft Reset the Infotainment System: Many Acura models allow for a soft reset. Try holding down the audio system's power button for about 5-10 seconds until the system reboots. This can often clear temporary software bugs.
  2. Check for System Software Updates: Acura regularly releases software updates for its infotainment systems. These updates often address bugs, improve stability, and enhance connectivity. Visit your Acura dealership or check the Acura owner's website (if applicable for your model) to see if there are any pending updates for your specific vehicle's VIN.
  3. Inspect USB Port and Cable: While you've tried different cables, ensure the USB port itself is clean and free of debris. Sometimes a slightly loose connection or a worn port can cause intermittent disconnections. Always use high-quality, MFi-certified (Made for iPhone) USB cables.
  4. Check Phone Settings: Ensure your iPhone's iOS is up to date. Also, check your phone's CarPlay settings to ensure it's not set to automatically disconnect under certain conditions.
  5. Remove and Re-pair: Try deleting your phone from the car's recognized devices list, and also delete the car from your phone's CarPlay settings. Then, re-pair them from scratch.

When to See a Shop: If these steps don't resolve the issue, or if the freezing becomes more frequent and severe, it's best to schedule an appointment with an Acura dealership. They can perform a deeper diagnostic check, inspect the head unit hardware, and apply any necessary firmware updates that might not be user-installable. There might also be Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) related to these specific issues that a dealership would be aware of.
