Vehicle: 2024 Acura ZDX Type S

Hey forum,

I'm having a serious issue with my 2024 Acura ZDX Type S. While driving home yesterday, a 'Check EV System' warning light came on, and I immediately noticed a significant reduction in power. The car felt sluggish, almost like it was in a 'limp home' mode.

I pulled over, turned it off and on, and the warning light stayed on. I managed to get it home, but I'm hesitant to drive it now. Has anyone else experienced this, and what could it mean? I'm worried about a major battery or motor problem.

A 'Check EV System' warning light combined with reduced power (often called 'limp mode') is a critical indicator of a serious issue within your ZDX's high-voltage or drivetrain system. This is a safety mechanism to prevent further damage. Here's what you need to know:

  1. Do Not Drive Extensively: Driving with this warning and reduced power can potentially worsen the problem or compromise safety. Limit driving to the absolute minimum, ideally just to get it to a service center.

  2. Common Causes: This warning can be triggered by various issues, including:

    • High-Voltage Battery Issues: Problems with battery cells, the Battery Management System (BMS), or internal wiring.
    • Electric Motor/Inverter Problems: Malfunctions in the electric motor(s) or the power inverter that converts DC battery power to AC for the motor.
    • Cooling System Issues: Overheating of the battery or motor due to a fault in the dedicated EV cooling system.
    • High-Voltage Cable/Connector Faults: Loose or corroded connections in the high-voltage system.
    • Sensor Malfunctions: Faulty sensors providing incorrect data to the vehicle's control units.
  3. Diagnostic Codes: When this light appears, the vehicle's onboard diagnostics system will store specific fault codes. For EV systems, these are often manufacturer-specific but can include generic codes like P0A0F (High Voltage Battery Charger Fault), P0A1B (Drive Motor 'A' Control Module), P0AA6 (Hybrid/EV Battery Voltage System Isolation Fault), or P0C29 (Drive Motor 'A' Inverter Performance).

When to See a Shop: Given the severity of a 'Check EV System' warning with reduced power, you should contact your Acura dealership immediately. Do not attempt DIY repairs on high-voltage systems. The vehicle will need to be towed to the service center for a thorough diagnostic scan and repair by trained EV technicians. This is not an issue to ignore.
