Vehicle: 2026 Acura ZDX A-Spec

Hi all,

I'm a proud owner of a 2026 Acura ZDX A-Spec, and I've been noticing a pretty significant drop in my estimated range lately. When I first got it, I was consistently getting close to the advertised 300 miles on a full charge. Now, after about a year, it's rare to see more than 260-270 miles, even with careful driving.

I live in a moderate climate, so extreme temperatures aren't usually an issue. My driving habits haven't changed much, and I primarily charge at home using a Level 2 charger. Is this normal battery degradation, or could something else be going on?

Experiencing a range drop in an EV after a year is not necessarily abnormal, but a significant and sudden drop warrants investigation. Here are the common factors and troubleshooting steps:

  1. Environmental Factors: While you mentioned a moderate climate, even subtle temperature changes can affect range. Colder weather significantly reduces EV range due to increased energy consumption for cabin heating and less efficient battery chemistry. Hot weather can also impact efficiency.
  2. Driving Style: Aggressive acceleration, high speeds (especially on highways), and frequent use of climate control (AC/heat) are major energy consumers. Even small changes in driving habits can affect range.
  3. Tire Pressure: Underinflated tires increase rolling resistance and can noticeably reduce range. Check your tire pressure regularly and ensure it matches the manufacturer's recommendations.
  4. Battery Degradation: All EV batteries experience some degradation over time and cycles. A 10-15% drop over a year could be on the higher side but might still be within expected parameters depending on usage patterns and charging habits (e.g., frequent fast charging to 100%).
  5. Software Updates: Ensure your ZDX's software is up to date. Manufacturers often release updates that optimize battery management and range estimation algorithms.

When to See a Shop: If the range drop is sudden, severe (e.g., more than 20% in a short period), or accompanied by any warning lights (like a 'Check EV System' light) or unusual vehicle behavior, it's crucial to visit your Acura dealership. They can perform a battery health check and diagnostic scan. Codes like P0A7A (Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Voltage Sense Circuit) or P0A94 (DC/DC Converter Fault) might indicate an issue with the battery pack or related high-voltage components that require professional attention.
