Vehicle: 2021 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor

My 2021 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor has been acting up with AC charging lately. It charges fine for a bit, then just stops, or sometimes doesn't even start at all. I've tried different chargers and cables at home and public stations, but the problem persists.

It's really frustrating when I wake up and the car isn't fully charged. I've checked the charging port for any debris, and everything looks clean. There are no specific error messages on the dash, just the charging indicator going off.

DC fast charging seems to work okay, but AC is a gamble. Is this a common software glitch or something more serious with the onboard charger? Any diagnostic steps I can take before heading to a service center?

This issue with your 2021 Polestar 2's AC charging stopping intermittently is a common concern for EV owners and typically points to a communication or power delivery problem. Here are steps and potential causes:

  1. Inspect Charging Cable & Port: Even if it looks clean, thoroughly check the charging cable's connectors for bent pins, corrosion, or wear. Ensure the car's charging port is free of moisture or foreign objects. A poor connection can interrupt charging.
  2. Try Different Charging Stations: While you've tried different locations, try a Level 2 charger at a different trusted location (e.g., a friend's house, a different public charger) to rule out issues with your home charging setup.
  3. Software Update Check: Ensure your Polestar 2's software is fully up to date. Charging protocols are often refined in software, and a bug could be causing the interruption. Check the infotainment system for available updates.
  4. Vehicle Restart: Perform a full infotainment system restart (holding the home button) and, if possible, a soft reset of the vehicle's main systems (refer to your owner's manual for the specific procedure).
  5. Potential Causes:
    • Onboard Charger (OBC) Fault: If the above steps don't resolve it, the onboard charger itself might be malfunctioning. This component converts AC power to DC for the battery.
    • Charging Port Module/Wiring: There could be an issue with the wiring or control module associated with the charging port.
    • Ground Fault Issues: Some charging stations can be sensitive to ground faults, and if your car is intermittently triggering one, it could stop charging.

When to See a Shop: If the problem persists after checking cables, trying multiple stations, and ensuring software is updated, it's time to visit a Polestar service center. They can perform a diagnostic scan (looking for codes like P0D2F - Onboard Charger System Performance or similar) to pinpoint the exact electrical component causing the fault. Since DC fast charging works, it strongly suggests an AC-specific component like the OBC.
