Vehicle: 2021 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor

Hey everyone, I'm having some persistent issues with my 2021 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor. Lately, I've been getting a 'Charging Port Error' message on the dashboard, and sometimes it just charges incredibly slowly, even on a Level 2 charger that used to work perfectly.

I've tried different charging stations and cables, but the problem seems to be with the car itself. It's really frustrating because I rely on consistent charging for my commute. Has anyone else experienced this with their Polestar 2?

Are there any known TSBs or recalls related to the charging system or port? I'm wondering if this is a common reliability issue or if I just got unlucky. Any advice on what to check before heading to the service center would be greatly appreciated!

Experiencing a 'Charging Port Error' or significantly slow charging on your 2021 Polestar 2 is a concern that can impact daily usability. This issue can stem from several factors, ranging from software glitches to hardware malfunctions within the charging system.

  1. Initial Troubleshooting Steps:

    • Restart Infotainment: Try a soft reset of your car's infotainment system (hold down the home button for 20 seconds until the Polestar logo appears). Sometimes, a system refresh can clear temporary communication errors.
    • Check Charging Cable & Port: Visually inspect your charging cable for any damage or wear. Also, check the car's charging port for any debris, moisture, or bent pins. Use compressed air if necessary to clear any blockages.
    • Try a Different Charger: While you've tried different stations, ensure you've tested both AC (Level 2) and DC (fast charging) if possible, to see if the issue is specific to one type.
  2. Potential Causes & Known Issues:

    • Software Glitches: Early Polestar 2 models have had software updates addressing charging stability and communication with various charging stations. Ensure your vehicle's software is up to date.
    • 12V Battery Health: A weak or failing 12V auxiliary battery can sometimes cause seemingly unrelated electrical issues, including charging communication errors, as it's crucial for system startup and module communication.
    • Charging Control Module (CCM) or Onboard Charger (OBC) Fault: These are critical hardware components. A fault here could prevent proper charging. Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to these modules might include P0D26 (Charge Input Control Module Performance) or P0D27 (Charge Input Control Module Communication Error).
    • Charging Port Assembly: Physical damage or internal failure of the charging port assembly itself is possible, though less common without external impact.
  3. When to See a Shop:

    • If the issue persists after basic troubleshooting, it's highly recommended to schedule a service appointment with a certified Polestar service center.
    • They have specialized diagnostic tools to read specific Polestar-related fault codes that generic OBD-II scanners might miss.
    • A technician can perform a comprehensive diagnostic test of the charging system, check for any relevant Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) specific to your VIN, and determine if a software update, 12V battery replacement, or a more significant component replacement (like the OBC or CCM) is required. Do not attempt to repair high-voltage components yourself.
