Vehicle: 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor

Hey everyone,

I'm having a persistent problem with my 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor when charging at home. Sometimes, it charges incredibly slowly on my Level 2 charger, taking way longer than it should. Other times, I plug it in, and it just doesn't initiate charging at all, even though the charger itself seems fine.

I've tried restarting the charger and even using a different cable, but the issue seems to be with the car itself. The charger works perfectly with my neighbor's EV, so I'm pretty sure it's not the EVSE.

Has anyone else experienced this with their Polestar 2? Any ideas on what might be going on? It's really frustrating when I need a full charge for my commute.

It sounds like you're dealing with a common, albeit frustrating, issue related to the vehicle's electrical and charging systems. Here are potential causes and troubleshooting steps:

Possible Causes:

  • Onboard Charger (OBC) Fault: The car's internal charger might be malfunctioning, leading to slow or no charging. This is a primary suspect for issues specific to the vehicle.
  • Charging Port Issue: Physical damage, debris, or corrosion in the charging port can disrupt communication or power flow.
  • Software Glitch: The vehicle's charging management software can sometimes encounter bugs that prevent proper charging initiation or control.
  • Communication Error (EVSE-to-Vehicle): Even if your EVSE works with other cars, a specific communication issue with your Polestar 2 could be at play.
  • 12V Battery Health: While less common for slow charging, a weak or failing 12V auxiliary battery in an EV can cause various electrical anomalies, including preventing the main high-voltage battery from charging.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Charging Schedule: Ensure no charging schedules or departure times are set in your Polestar's infotainment system or the Polestar app that might be overriding immediate charging.
  2. Reboot Infotainment System: Perform a soft reset of your car's infotainment system (hold the home button for 20 seconds until the screen goes black and restarts). This can resolve minor software glitches.
  3. Inspect Charging Port: Carefully examine your car's charging port for any visible debris, bent pins, or signs of corrosion. Use a flashlight if necessary.
  4. Try a Different Public Charger: If possible, try charging at a different Level 2 public charging station. This helps confirm if the issue is isolated to your home setup or consistent across different EVSEs.
  5. Check for Error Messages: Pay close attention to any messages displayed on the driver's display or infotainment screen when you attempt to charge. These can provide crucial diagnostic clues.

When to See a Shop: If the issue persists after these basic troubleshooting steps, especially if you notice any specific error codes (e.g., related to the OBC like P0D27 - Onboard Charger Communication Error or P0AA6 - Hybrid Battery Voltage System Isolation Fault), it's time to schedule a service appointment with a Polestar service center. A diagnostic scan will be necessary to pinpoint the exact fault, which could involve replacing the onboard charger, repairing wiring, or updating software. Do not attempt to open or repair high-voltage components yourself.
