Vehicle: 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor

Hey everyone,

I'm having a really frustrating issue with my 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor. The infotainment system, which runs Android Automotive OS, keeps freezing up and then randomly rebooting. It happens pretty frequently, sometimes multiple times on a short drive.

This is making navigation unreliable and music playback constantly interrupted. I've tried just letting it do its thing, but it's not getting better. Has anyone else experienced this with their Polestar 2, especially a 2022 model year? Are there any known fixes or workarounds I should try before taking it into service?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It's understandable how frustrating a constantly freezing and rebooting infotainment system can be, especially in a modern EV like your 2022 Polestar 2. This is a known issue for some owners, often related to software stability within the Android Automotive OS.

Here are some steps you can take:

  1. Perform a Soft Reset: This is the first and easiest step. While the car is on, press and hold the home button (the physical button below the screen) for about 20 seconds until the screen goes black and the Polestar logo reappears. This often resolves temporary software glitches without losing any data.

  2. Check for Software Updates: Ensure your vehicle's software is completely up to date. Polestar frequently releases over-the-air (OTA) updates that include bug fixes and stability improvements for the infotainment system. You can check for available updates through the car's settings menu under 'System' or via the Polestar app.

  3. Consider a Factory Reset: If a soft reset and software updates don't resolve the issue, a factory reset of the infotainment system might be necessary. Be aware that this will erase all personal data, paired devices, and custom settings from the infotainment system. You can usually find this option in the car's settings under 'System' or 'Privacy'.

  4. Investigate Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs): Polestar has issued TSBs related to infotainment system stability and performance. While these are typically addressed during routine service, it's worth mentioning your specific symptoms to a service advisor. They can check if your vehicle is eligible for any relevant software re-flashes or updates not available via OTA.

Potential Causes: The most common causes are software bugs, corrupted system files, or minor communication errors within the infotainment control module (ICM). Less frequently, it could indicate a hardware fault.

When to See a Shop: If the problem persists after performing soft resets, ensuring all software is updated, and considering a factory reset, it's time to schedule a service appointment. A Polestar technician has access to advanced diagnostic tools that can identify deeper software issues, re-flash the system firmware, or diagnose potential hardware failures with the ICM. Persistent issues could indicate a need for a more comprehensive software reinstallation or a hardware replacement.
