Vehicle: 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor

Hey everyone,

I'm having a really frustrating issue with my 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor. For the past few days, when I try to plug it in, whether at home on my Level 2 charger or at a public DC fast charger, it just won't initiate charging.

Instead, I get a persistent 'Charging System Fault' message on the driver display. I've tried restarting the car, unplugging and replugging the charger multiple times, and even tried different charging stations, but nothing seems to work. The charging port light just stays red or doesn't light up at all.

Has anyone else experienced this with their Polestar 2? It's really inconvenient, especially since I rely on it for my daily commute. Any ideas on what might be causing this or what I can try before taking it to the service center?

The 'Charging System Fault' message on your 2022 Polestar 2 is a critical warning that indicates a problem preventing the vehicle from accepting a charge. Given that you've tried multiple chargers and locations, it points towards an issue within the vehicle itself rather than the external charging infrastructure.

Here are some potential causes and troubleshooting steps:

  1. Perform a Full Vehicle Restart: Sometimes, a deep software glitch can cause these issues. Try a full vehicle restart by holding down the home button on the center display for about 20 seconds until the screen goes black and the Polestar logo reappears. This is more comprehensive than just turning the car off and on.
  2. Inspect Charging Port and Cable: Carefully examine your vehicle's charging port for any signs of damage, bent pins, or foreign debris that might be obstructing the connection. Also, check your charging cable for any visible damage. Even a minor issue here can disrupt communication.
  3. Check for Software Updates: Ensure your Polestar 2's software is fully up to date. Polestar frequently releases over-the-air (OTA) updates that can address known bugs and improve system stability, including charging protocols.
  4. Potential Causes & Diagnostics:
    • Onboard Charger (OBC) Fault: The OBC converts AC power to DC for the battery. A fault here is a common cause of charging issues.
    • Battery Management System (BMS) Communication Error: The BMS monitors and controls battery charging. If it's not communicating correctly, it can prevent charging.
    • Charging Port Control Module: Issues with the module that manages the charging port's communication and locking mechanism.
    • Relevant OBD-II Codes: A diagnostic scan might reveal codes like P0D2A (Charging System Fault), P0D2B (Charging System Malfunction), or P0D2C (Charging System Performance). These codes help pinpoint the specific area of concern.

When to See a Shop: If the full vehicle restart and port inspection do not resolve the issue, it is highly recommended to schedule an appointment with a Polestar service center immediately. A persistent 'Charging System Fault' can indicate a serious problem with the vehicle's high-voltage system, onboard charger, or battery management system. Attempting to force a charge or ignoring the warning could potentially lead to further damage. The service center has specialized diagnostic tools to read specific Polestar fault codes and perform the necessary repairs safely.
