2022 Polestar 2: "Service Required" Message and Reduced Power After Charging

Hey everyone,

I'm having a really frustrating issue with my 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor. Yesterday, after a full charge at a public DC fast charger, I started driving and immediately got a "Service Required" message on the driver display. Simultaneously, I noticed a significant reduction in power, almost like it was in a limp mode.

The car still drives, but it feels very sluggish, and I'm hesitant to drive it much further than home. There are no other obvious warning lights besides the main service message. I've tried restarting the car multiple times, locking and unlocking, but the message persists, and the power reduction is still there.

Has anyone experienced something similar with their Polestar 2? I'm wondering if this is a common software glitch, a battery issue, or something else entirely. Any advice on what I should check or if there's a known OBD-II code associated with this kind of problem would be greatly appreciated before I schedule a service appointment.

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).

  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
