Vehicle: 2024 Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor

I'm having persistent issues with my key fob not being detected in my 2024 Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor. Sometimes I have to place it right on the center console sensor to start the car, which is really inconvenient. Also, my digital key on my phone often fails to connect or unlock the car, even with good signal and my phone right next to the door.

I've replaced the fob battery with a brand new one, but the problem persists. Is there a known connectivity bug with the newer Polestar 2 models or something I should be checking in the car's settings or my phone?

Issues with key fob detection and digital key functionality can be frustrating, especially in a new vehicle like your 2024 Polestar 2. These problems often stem from communication errors between the key, your phone, and the car's various electronic modules.

Common Causes:

  • Key Fob Battery: Even new batteries can sometimes be faulty or have a low charge. Incorrect installation is also possible.
  • Vehicle Receiver Antenna: The car's internal antennas responsible for detecting the key fob might be obstructed, damaged, or malfunctioning.
  • Software Glitch: Communication errors between the key fob, the car's security module, and the digital key system can occur due to software bugs.
  • Phone Issues (Digital Key): Bluetooth interference, incorrect app permissions, phone's battery-saving modes, or an outdated phone OS can affect digital key performance.
  • External Interference: Other electronic devices (e.g., in your pocket, bag, or car) or strong radio signals in certain areas can interfere with the key fob's signal.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Replace Key Fob Battery (Again): Try a fresh, high-quality CR2032 battery from a reputable brand, ensuring proper polarity. Sometimes, even new batteries can be duds.
  2. Test Second Key Fob: See if your spare key fob works reliably. This helps isolate if the issue is with a specific fob or the car itself.
  3. Perform a Soft Reset: A quick infotainment system reset (holding the home button for ~20 seconds) can sometimes clear temporary communication glitches affecting keyless entry and digital key systems.
  4. For Digital Key (Phone App):
    • Ensure your phone's Bluetooth is on and the Polestar app has all necessary permissions (location always allowed, background refresh enabled).
    • Try force-closing and restarting the Polestar app, or even reinstalling it.
    • Check for phone OS updates, as these can affect Bluetooth stability.
    • Ensure your phone's battery isn't critically low, which can limit app functionality.
  5. Check for Vehicle Software Updates: Ensure your Polestar is running the latest software (Settings > System > Software updates), as updates often include improvements to keyless entry and digital key functionality.

When to See a Shop: If both key fobs exhibit issues, the digital key remains unreliable after troubleshooting your phone, and software updates don't help, it's time for a Polestar service center visit. They can diagnose the vehicle's keyless entry control module, check the receiver antennas, and re-pair or reprogram the key fobs. They can also check for specific fault codes related to the immobilizer or keyless entry system (e.g., B1200 - Key Transponder Fault, or B1A00 - Electronic Key Recognition Antenna Fault). This will require specialized tools to properly diagnose and resolve.
