Vehicle: 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor

Hey everyone,

I'm having a frustrating issue with my 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor. Lately, when I plug it into my home Level 2 charger (ChargePoint, 40A), it either charges extremely slowly or sometimes doesn't initiate charging at all. The car's display shows 'Charging paused' or 'Charging error' occasionally, even though the charger itself seems fine and works with other EVs.

I've tried restarting the car (the two-button reset) and unplugging/replugging the charger multiple times. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. It's really inconsistent. I'm worried there might be an issue with the car's charging port or an internal module.

Has anyone else experienced this with their Polestar 2? Any tips or tricks before I have to take it into service? It's making daily charging a real headache.

It sounds like you're dealing with a common, yet frustrating, intermittent charging issue with your 2022 Polestar 2. This problem can stem from several points within the charging ecosystem, from the charger itself to the vehicle's internal systems.

Here are some steps and potential causes to consider:

  1. Verify the Charger and Cable:

    • Test with another EV: If possible, try charging another electric vehicle with your ChargePoint unit to confirm it's functioning correctly.
    • Try a different charger: Attempt to charge your Polestar 2 at a public Level 2 station or a friend's charger to see if the issue persists. This helps isolate if the problem is with your home setup or the car.
    • Inspect the charging cable: Look for any visible damage, bends, or corrosion on the cable and connectors. A faulty cable can disrupt communication.
  2. Vehicle-Side Troubleshooting:

    • Soft Reset: You've already tried the two-button reset, which is good. Sometimes a full infotainment system restart can clear minor software glitches affecting charging communication.
    • Check Charging Port: Carefully inspect the vehicle's charging port for any debris, dirt, or bent pins. Even a small obstruction can prevent proper contact and communication. Use compressed air if needed, but avoid inserting anything metallic.
    • Charging Schedule/Settings: Double-check your Polestar's charging settings and any scheduled charging times within the vehicle's infotainment system or the Polestar app. Ensure there are no conflicting settings.
  3. Potential Causes (If issue persists):

    • On-Board Charger (OBC) Fault: The OBC converts AC power from your Level 2 charger into DC power for the battery. A fault here can lead to slow or failed charging.
    • Battery Management System (BMS) Glitch: The BMS monitors and controls battery charging. A software bug or hardware issue in the BMS could incorrectly pause or limit charging.
    • Charging Port Sensor/Module Issue: Internal sensors within the charging port communicate with the vehicle and charger. If these are faulty, the car might not properly detect the charger or initiate the charging sequence.
    • Software Bug: While less common for persistent issues, a deeper software bug within the vehicle's charging control module could be at play.

When to See a Shop: If you've tried the above troubleshooting steps and the problem continues, especially if it occurs with multiple chargers, it's time to schedule a service appointment with a Polestar service center. They have specialized diagnostic tools that can read specific EV charging fault codes (which are different from standard OBD-II engine codes) and pinpoint the exact component causing the issue, whether it's the OBC, BMS, charging port assembly, or a software-related problem requiring an update or deeper diagnostics.
