Vehicle: 2017 Audi A6 3.0T Prestige

Hello everyone,

I'm having an issue with the parking sensors on my 2017 Audi A6 3.0T Prestige. Lately, they've been acting up, giving me a constant, loud beeping sound and a 'Parking System Malfunction' warning on the MMI screen, even when there's nothing around the car.

It's happening almost every time I put the car in reverse or even just drive at low speeds. I've checked the sensors for dirt or damage, but they look clean. Could this be a wiring issue, or maybe a faulty sensor module?

This is really annoying, and I'm worried it might be a sign of a bigger electrical problem. Any ideas on what might be causing this or how to troubleshoot it?

A 'Parking System Malfunction' with constant beeping on your 2017 Audi A6 is a common complaint and points directly to an issue within the Park Assist system's electrical components. Here's how to approach it:

  1. Sensor Inspection: While you've checked for dirt, also look closely for any physical damage, cracks, or loose connections on each individual parking sensor. Sometimes, even a minor impact can damage the internal transducer.
  2. Wiring Harness Check: The wiring harnesses for parking sensors, especially those exposed to the elements (front and rear bumpers), can become corroded, frayed, or damaged over time. Look for any visible signs of wear or pinch points. A damaged wire can cause intermittent signals or complete failure.
  3. Module Communication: The parking assist system relies on a dedicated control module. If this module is faulty or losing communication, it can trigger the warning. This often requires diagnostic tools to confirm.
  4. Environmental Factors: Heavy rain, snow, or ice can temporarily interfere with sensor operation. Ensure the sensors are completely dry and clear of any moisture.

Relevant OBD Codes: When a parking sensor system malfunctions, it will typically store specific diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in the Park Assist control module. These are usually 'B' (Body) codes or 'U' (Network Communication) codes:

  • B10F0xx: Front/Rear Parking Aid Sensor (specific sensor number will follow)
  • U0121: Lost Communication with Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module (if the parking system relies on wheel speed data and communication is lost)
  • U0420: Invalid Data Received from Parking Aid Control Module

When to See a Shop: If a thorough visual inspection doesn't reveal an obvious issue, it's highly recommended to take your A6 to an Audi dealership or a specialist. They can connect to the vehicle's diagnostic port and read the specific fault codes from the Park Assist control module. These codes will pinpoint exactly which sensor or part of the system is failing, allowing for a targeted repair rather than guesswork. Attempting to replace sensors without proper diagnosis can be costly and ineffective.
