Coolant Leak on my 2018 Audi Q5 - Is this a common issue?

Hey everyone,

I've noticed a persistent coolant smell and a small puddle under the front of my 2018 Audi Q5 2.0T Premium Plus. The coolant level in the reservoir seems to be dropping slowly, and I've had to top it off a couple of times in the last month.

I'm worried this might be a sign of a bigger problem. Is this a known issue with the Q5s from this generation? I've heard some talk about water pump failures on Audis, and I'm wondering if that's what I'm dealing with here.

Any advice on what to look for or if there are any TSBs or recalls I should be aware of? Thanks for your help!

Summary: For Coolant Leak on my 2018 Audi Q5 - Is this a common issue?, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
