Hey everyone,

I'm having a really frustrating issue with my 2020 BMW 330i (G20 chassis). For the past few weeks, if I leave the car parked for more than 24-36 hours, the battery is completely dead. I've had it jump-started a few times, and the alternator seems to be charging fine once it's running. The battery itself was tested and seems okay, though it's been discharged a lot.

I don't have any aftermarket accessories installed, and I'm careful to turn off lights and close doors properly. It feels like something is staying awake and draining power. Has anyone experienced this with their G20 3-series? Any modules known to cause parasitic draws?

I'm dreading taking it to the dealer without some idea of what's going on. Any advice on where to start looking would be greatly appreciated!

Summary: For Persistent Battery Drain on 2020 330i - Waking Up to a Dead Car!, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
