Rough Shifts on 2018 330i (F30) - Is it time for a transmission fluid change?

Hey everyone,

I've got a 2018 BMW 330i (F30 chassis) with about 75,000 miles on it. Lately, I've noticed the shifts, especially when the car is cold, feel a bit rough and jerky. It's not terrible, but definitely not as smooth as it used to be. I'm wondering if this could be a sign that the transmission fluid needs to be changed.

I know BMW often says 'lifetime fluid,' but I've heard that's more for the 'lifetime' of the warranty, not the car itself. Has anyone with a similar model year or mileage experienced this? Is a transmission fluid and filter service something I should consider, or could it be something else entirely?

Any advice on DIY or what to look out for would be greatly appreciated!

Summary: For Rough Shifts on 2018 330i (F30) - Is it time for a transmission fluid change?, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
