Vehicle: 2022 Buick Envision Avenir

Hey everyone,

My 2022 Buick Envision Avenir, with about 25,000 miles, suddenly has its TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) light on, and it's not showing any individual tire pressure readings on the dash. Instead, it just shows dashes for all four tires. I've checked all tire pressures manually, and they are all correct and within spec.

I tried driving for a bit, thinking it might reset, but no luck. Could it be a faulty sensor in one of the wheels, or maybe a problem with the TPMS module itself? It's too new for the batteries in all four sensors to die at once, right?

Has anyone else experienced this complete loss of TPMS readings on a newer Envision? What was the cause and solution? Any advice before I take it to the dealer?

ClearTheCode admin answer: It's certainly unusual for all four TPMS readings to disappear simultaneously on a relatively new 2022 Buick Envision Avenir, especially if tire pressures are confirmed correct. This usually points to a system-wide issue rather than individual sensor failures.

Possible Causes:

  • TPMS Module Failure: The central control module that receives signals from the sensors and communicates with the vehicle's computer could be faulty.
  • Interference: Strong electromagnetic interference from aftermarket accessories (e.g., certain dash cams, radar detectors, or even faulty charging cables) can sometimes disrupt TPMS signals.
  • Loss of Sensor Programming: Although rare for all four, the vehicle might have lost the programming for the sensors, requiring them to be re-learned.
  • Corrupted Software/Firmware: A glitch in the vehicle's body control module (BCM) or TPMS module software could cause this.
  • Wiring Issue: A problem with the wiring to the TPMS receiver or module.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check for Aftermarket Electronics: If you have any recently installed aftermarket electronic devices, try temporarily disconnecting them to see if the TPMS system restores functionality.
  2. Perform a TPMS Re-learn Procedure: Consult your owner's manual for the specific TPMS re-learn procedure for your Envision. This often involves a sequence of key turns, button presses, and sometimes involves deflating/inflating tires. If successful, this can re-establish communication.
  3. Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs): Even if the Check Engine Light isn't on, a more advanced scan tool (not just a basic OBD-II reader) can often pull codes from the Body Control Module (BCM) or directly from the TPMS module, which might indicate a specific system fault.
  4. Battery Disconnect: As a last resort before a shop, disconnecting the vehicle's negative battery terminal for 15-30 minutes can sometimes reset modules and clear temporary electronic glitches.

When to See a Shop:

  • If none of the above troubleshooting steps restore the TPMS readings.
  • If you do not have access to an advanced scan tool that can read BCM/TPMS specific codes.
  • If the issue persists, as it likely indicates a faulty TPMS module, a complex wiring issue, or a software problem that requires dealer-level diagnostic equipment and expertise to resolve.
  • While not a critical safety issue like a braking system, a non-functional TPMS means you won't be alerted to genuinely low tire pressure, which can affect safety and tire longevity.
