Vehicle: 2016 Cadillac ATS 2.0T Luxury

My 2016 Cadillac ATS 2.0T Luxury has a CUE system that's starting to act up. The screen itself looks like it's bubbling or delaminating around the edges, and the touch response is getting really flaky, especially on the bottom half.

It's super frustrating when trying to change radio stations or use navigation. Has anyone else experienced this with their ATS? Is there a known fix or a recall for this issue?

I'm wondering if this is a common problem with these older CUE systems.

ClearTheCode admin answer:

  1. Common Issue: Screen delamination and unresponsiveness on CUE systems, particularly in earlier models like your 2016 ATS, is a very well-documented problem. It's often caused by the adhesive failing between the screen layers due to heat and age.
  2. TSB Information: Cadillac issued Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) related to CUE system performance and screen issues. While not a recall (which implies a safety defect), these TSBs acknowledge the problem and provide guidance for dealers. You should check with your Cadillac dealership to see if your VIN is covered by any specific TSBs that might offer a reduced cost or extended warranty repair, especially if your vehicle is still under an extended warranty.
  3. Repair Options:
    • Dealership Replacement: The most straightforward, but often most expensive, option is to have the dealership replace the entire CUE HMI module.
    • Third-Party Repair: Many independent shops specialize in CUE repairs, often replacing just the digitizer or screen assembly, which can be significantly cheaper.
    • DIY Kits: For the mechanically inclined, there are aftermarket screen replacement kits available online. This requires careful disassembly of the dash and CUE unit.
  4. When to See a Shop: If the system is becoming unusable and you rely on it for essential functions like climate control or navigation, it's time to act. Get quotes from both your dealership and reputable independent repair shops. Be sure to ask about any potential TSBs that might apply.
