Vehicle: 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing

Hey everyone, just got my 2023 CT5-V Blackwing and I'm loving it! I plan on doing some track days and spirited driving. I'm wondering about the transmission fluid service interval.

The manual says one thing, but with performance driving, should I consider changing it sooner? What type of fluid is recommended?

Any DIY tips or is this a dealer-only job? I want to make sure I'm keeping up with proper maintenance for this beast. Thanks!

For a high-performance vehicle like your 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, especially with track use or spirited driving, the transmission fluid service interval should indeed be accelerated compared to the standard schedule. The manufacturer's manual typically provides intervals for 'normal' driving conditions, which don't account for the increased heat and stress of performance driving.

Here's what you need to know:

  1. Recommended Interval: For severe duty (track, towing, frequent heavy acceleration), consider changing the transmission fluid every 30,000-50,000 miles, or even annually if you're frequently on the track. Consult your owner's manual for the 'severe duty' schedule, which is often much shorter than the 'normal' one.
  2. Fluid Type: Cadillac specifies Dexron HP (High Performance) transmission fluid for your CT5-V Blackwing. Using any other fluid can lead to performance issues and potential damage. Ensure you purchase genuine ACDelco Dexron HP.
  3. DIY Difficulty: This is generally not a DIY job for most owners, especially on a high-performance vehicle. The transmission fluid change often involves:
    • Specialized tools for precise fluid level checks (often requiring the transmission to be at a specific temperature).
    • Accessing drain and fill plugs that can be difficult to reach.
    • Proper disposal of old fluid.
    • Some transmissions may require a diagnostic tool to put the transmission into a 'fluid level check mode' or to reset adaptive learning values after a fluid change.
  4. When to See a Shop: We highly recommend having this service performed by a Cadillac dealership or a specialized performance shop familiar with the CT5-V Blackwing. They have the correct equipment, diagnostic tools, and experience to ensure the fluid is changed correctly, the level is accurate, and any necessary resets are performed. Incorrect fluid levels or types can lead to premature transmission wear, shifting issues, or even catastrophic failure.
