2022 Cadillac CT5 Remote Start Not Working - Key Fob Issues

Vehicle: 2022 Cadillac CT5 Sport

Hey everyone,

I'm having trouble with the remote start feature on my 2022 Cadillac CT5 Sport. It just stopped working a few days ago. When I try to use the remote start from my key fob, nothing happens – no lights flash, no engine crank. The regular lock/unlock buttons on the fob work fine, and I can start the car normally with the push-button start inside.

I've already tried replacing the battery in my key fob, but that didn't make any difference. I also checked the owner's manual for any specific conditions, like the hood being open, but everything seems normal. Is there a common electrical issue that causes remote start to fail on these newer CT5s? Could it be an immobilizer issue or something with the car's computer?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Remote start issues on a 2022 Cadillac CT5 can be frustrating, especially when other key fob functions work. The system relies on several conditions and components to operate correctly. Since your key fob's lock/unlock functions are working, it suggests the fob itself is transmitting, but the remote start command isn't being processed or executed.

Common Causes:

  • Vehicle Conditions Not Met: The remote start system has specific safety interlocks. Common ones include:
    • Hood not fully latched.
    • Any door, trunk, or liftgate open.
    • Check Engine Light (CEL) illuminated.
    • Low fuel level.
    • Previous remote start attempts exceeded (some vehicles limit attempts).
    • Vehicle alarm triggered.
  • Key Fob Programming/Signal: While lock/unlock works, the remote start signal might be weak or corrupted.
  • Body Control Module (BCM) Issue: The BCM manages many electrical functions, including remote start. A glitch or fault here could prevent it from activating.
  • Antenna/Receiver Fault: The vehicle's antenna that receives the key fob signal could be faulty.
  • Immobilizer System: While less likely if the car starts normally with the push button, a minor glitch in the immobilizer system could prevent remote start.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check All Interlocks: Double-check that all doors, the hood, and the trunk are securely closed. Ensure the fuel level is adequate and there are no active warning lights on the dash (especially the Check Engine Light).
  2. Try the Spare Key Fob: If you have a second key fob, try using it to see if the issue is specific to one fob.
  3. Perform a Vehicle Reset: Disconnect the negative battery terminal for 15-20 minutes, then reconnect it. This can sometimes reset modules and clear temporary glitches.
  4. Check for DTCs: Use an OBD-II scanner to check for any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), especially B-codes (Body codes) related to the BCM, key fob, or immobilizer system (e.g., B3109 - Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter Fault, B310B - Remote Start Disable).

When to See a Shop: If the basic checks and a battery reset don't resolve the problem, it's best to take your CT5 to a Cadillac dealership. They have specialized diagnostic tools (like GM's GDS2) that can:

  • Read specific BCM data and remote start parameters.
  • Test the key fob's remote start signal strength.
  • Check for more in-depth DTCs that generic scanners might miss.
  • Reprogram key fobs or the BCM if necessary.
  • Diagnose potential issues with the remote start antenna or the BCM itself.
