Vehicle: 2023 Cadillac CT4 Premium Luxury

I just got a new 2023 Cadillac CT4 Premium Luxury, and I'm loving it, but I'm having some annoying issues with the infotainment system. My Apple CarPlay keeps disconnecting randomly, sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes I have to unplug and replug my phone.

Also, the whole infotainment screen has restarted itself a couple of times while I'm driving. It's not constant, but it's definitely noticeable. Is this a common bug with the newer CT4s, or should I be worried about a deeper electrical issue?

ClearTheCode admin answer:

  1. Common for New Tech: Infotainment glitches, especially with new vehicle launches and complex systems like Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, are not uncommon. These often stem from software bugs rather than major hardware failures.
  2. Troubleshooting Steps:
    • Check Cables/Connections: Ensure you're using a high-quality, genuine Apple USB cable. Faulty cables are a frequent cause of CarPlay disconnects. Try a different cable and a different USB port if available.
    • Phone Software: Make sure your iPhone is running the latest iOS version.
    • Vehicle Software Updates: Cadillac frequently releases over-the-air (OTA) or dealer-installed software updates for their infotainment systems. These updates often address known bugs and improve stability.
    • System Reset: Sometimes, a soft reset of the infotainment system (check your owner's manual for instructions, often involves holding down a power button) can resolve temporary glitches.
  3. Potential Causes for Restarts: Random restarts of the entire system could indicate a deeper software issue, a loose connection, or in rare cases, a faulty head unit. A low or failing 12V battery, even on a new car, can sometimes cause strange electrical gremlins, so a battery health check might be warranted.
  4. When to See a Shop: Since your CT4 is a 2023 model, it's well within its factory warranty period. If basic troubleshooting (cable, phone updates) doesn't resolve the issue, schedule an appointment with your Cadillac dealership. Clearly describe all symptoms, including when CarPlay disconnects and when the system restarts. They can check for any relevant Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), perform diagnostic scans, and apply any available software updates. This is a warranty item, so there should be no cost to you for diagnosis and repair.
