2021 CT4 Wireless Charger Not Working - Phone Not Detected

Vehicle: 2021 Cadillac CT4 Sport

I've got a 2021 Cadillac CT4 Sport, and the wireless charging pad in the center console has stopped working. It used to charge my phone perfectly, but now when I place my phone on it, nothing happens. No charging indicator, no 'phone detected' message, just dead.

I've tried different phones (all Qi-compatible), removed my phone case, and even tried restarting the car, but no luck. Is there a fuse for this, or could it be a problem with the charging pad module itself? Any thoughts on what might be going on?

ClearTheCode admin answer:

It's frustrating when convenience features like wireless charging stop working, especially in a newer vehicle like your 2021 Cadillac CT4. The wireless charging system involves a charging pad module, its power supply, and communication with the vehicle's infotainment system.

Here are potential causes and troubleshooting steps:

  1. Fuse Check: Yes, the wireless charging system will have a dedicated fuse. Consult your owner's manual for the exact location in the fuse box (often under the hood or in the trunk/rear seat area) and check if it's blown. A blown fuse is a simple and inexpensive fix.
  2. Software Glitch: Sometimes, a temporary software glitch can cause modules to stop responding. Try performing a full vehicle reset by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 15-30 minutes. This can sometimes reset the module and restore functionality.
  3. Foreign Objects: Ensure there are no foreign metallic objects (coins, keys, etc.) lodged in or around the charging pad, as these can interfere with the inductive charging process or even cause a short.
  4. Module Failure: If the fuse is good and a reset doesn't help, the wireless charging control module itself might have failed. This module is responsible for detecting the phone and initiating the charge.
  5. Wiring Issue: Less common, but a loose or damaged wire supplying power to the charging pad could be the culprit.

OBD Codes:

While a direct OBD-II P-code is unlikely for a wireless charger, a dealership's diagnostic scanner might reveal manufacturer-specific B-codes (e.g., B1XXX series) related to the wireless charging module's status or communication errors if it's faulty.

When to See a Shop:

  • If checking and replacing the fuse doesn't resolve the issue.
  • If you're uncomfortable with electrical diagnostics or disconnecting the battery.
  • If you suspect a module failure or wiring problem, as these often require specialized tools and knowledge for proper diagnosis and repair. A dealership can perform a full diagnostic scan to pinpoint the exact cause.
