Vehicle: 2024 Cadillac Lyriq Luxury

Just got my new 2024 Cadillac Lyriq Luxury and I'm loving the EV experience! I'm trying to stay on top of all maintenance, even though it's an EV. I know EVs still have cabin air filters, and I assume an engine air filter for the cooling systems or battery?

What are the recommended intervals for changing these on the Lyriq? Also, are they easy to access for a DIY replacement, or should I just let the dealer handle it during service?

Congratulations on your new 2024 Cadillac Lyriq! It's great that you're thinking about maintenance, even with an EV. While EVs eliminate many traditional internal combustion engine maintenance items, they still have crucial filters that need attention.

  1. Cabin Air Filter:
    • Purpose: Filters dust, pollen, allergens, and other airborne particles from the air entering the passenger cabin through the HVAC system.
    • Interval: Cadillac typically recommends changing the cabin air filter every 2 years or 20,000-25,000 miles, whichever comes first. However, if you live in a dusty environment, drive frequently with the windows down, or notice reduced airflow or unusual odors from your AC, you might want to change it more frequently.
    • DIY Difficulty: Generally, the cabin air filter is a relatively easy DIY replacement. It's usually located behind the glove box or under the dashboard on the passenger side. You'll likely need to remove a few clips or screws to access the housing. Many online tutorials or your owner's manual can guide you through the specific steps for the Lyriq.
  2. Battery Cooling Air Filter (or similar intake filters):
    • Purpose: Unlike a gasoline car with an 'engine air filter' for combustion, EVs like the Lyriq have intake filters for their battery cooling systems, power electronics cooling, or even the cabin air intake itself. These filters ensure that the critical cooling components remain free of debris, which is vital for battery health and overall system efficiency.
    • Interval: These filters are often part of the general maintenance schedule, typically every 2-4 years or 30,000-50,000 miles, but check your Lyriq's specific owner's manual or service schedule for the exact recommendation. They might not be called an 'engine air filter' but serve a similar protective role for vital EV systems.
    • DIY Difficulty: Accessing these filters can vary greatly. Some might be easily accessible under the hood, while others could require more extensive panel removal or even lifting the vehicle. For the Lyriq, consult your owner's manual or a service guide. If it's not straightforward, this might be a task best left to a Cadillac service technician during your scheduled maintenance.

Benefits of Regular Filter Changes:

  • Improved Air Quality: A clean cabin filter provides healthier air for you and your passengers.
  • Optimal HVAC Performance: Prevents reduced airflow and strain on your HVAC system.
  • Extended Component Life: Clean cooling system filters ensure efficient operation of your battery and power electronics, preventing overheating and potential damage.

For precise instructions and locations, always refer to your 2024 Cadillac Lyriq owner's manual.
