Vehicle: 2022 Chevrolet Traverse Premier

Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing some really frustrating issues with the infotainment system in my 2022 Chevrolet Traverse Premier. The screen frequently freezes, becomes unresponsive to touch, and sometimes just goes completely black for a few seconds before restarting. This is particularly annoying when I'm trying to use navigation or adjust climate settings.

On top of that, my Apple CarPlay constantly disconnects. It'll work for a bit, then drop out, and sometimes won't reconnect unless I restart the entire vehicle. I've tried different cables and even different phones, but the problem persists.

Is this a common problem with the newer Traverse models? Are there any known software updates or recalls for this? It's really impacting my driving experience, and I'm wondering if I should push for a hardware replacement.

ClearTheCode admin answer:

Infotainment system glitches, including screen freezing and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity issues, are unfortunately not uncommon across various modern vehicles, including the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. These systems are complex and rely heavily on software and various modules.

Common Causes:

  1. Software Bugs: The most frequent cause is software bugs or glitches within the infotainment system's operating software. Updates are often released to address these.
  2. Module Malfunction: Less commonly, a specific hardware module within the infotainment system (e.g., the Human Machine Interface (HMI) module or the radio module) could be failing.
  3. Connectivity Issues: For CarPlay/Android Auto, issues can stem from the USB port, the cable itself (even new ones can be faulty), or the phone's software.
  4. Power Fluctuations: Intermittent power supply to the infotainment system can also cause reboots or freezes.

What to do:

  1. Software Update: The first step is always to ensure your infotainment system has the latest software updates. Dealerships can check for and apply these updates. Sometimes, over-the-air updates are available, but a dealer visit is best for comprehensive checks.
  2. System Reset: Try a 'soft reset' of the infotainment system. This is often done by holding down the power button on the radio for 10-15 seconds until the screen goes blank and restarts. This can clear temporary glitches.
  3. Check USB Ports: Ensure the USB ports are clean and free of debris. Try using a different, high-quality, short USB cable specifically designed for data transfer.
  4. Phone Software: Ensure your phone's operating system and apps are fully updated.
  5. Check for TSBs/Recalls: While not a safety recall, there might be Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) related to infotainment performance or specific module updates for your Traverse.

When to see a shop:

If the issues persist after trying a soft reset and checking your phone/cables, schedule an appointment with your Chevrolet dealership. Explain all the symptoms in detail. They can perform diagnostic scans on the infotainment system, check for available software updates, and if necessary, diagnose potential hardware failures. Since your Traverse is a 2022 model, it should still be well within its bumper-to-bumper warranty, covering any necessary repairs or replacements of infotainment components.
