Vehicle: 2023 Chrysler 300 Touring L

I bought a new 2023 Chrysler 300 Touring L about a year ago, and I'm already noticing really rapid and uneven tire wear, especially on the front tires. The inner edge of my front passenger tire is almost bald, while the rest of the tread looks okay. Also, the car has started to subtly pull to the right when I'm driving straight on a flat road.

It only has 15,000 miles on it, which seems way too soon for this kind of tire wear. I had the tires rotated at 7,500 miles, but the problem seems to have gotten worse since then. What could be causing this?

  1. Common Causes: Rapid and uneven tire wear, coupled with the vehicle pulling to one side, are classic symptoms of an alignment issue or worn suspension components on your 2023 Chrysler 300 Touring L.
    • Wheel Alignment Issues: This is the most likely cause. Incorrect camber (tire tilt in/out), toe (tire angle in/out), or caster (steering axis angle) settings will cause tires to scrub and wear unevenly. Hitting a pothole or curb can easily knock an alignment out of spec.
    • Worn Suspension Components: Even on a newer car with 15,000 miles, a faulty ball joint, control arm bushing, or tie rod end can introduce play, leading to alignment problems and pulling. A manufacturing defect, though rare, could also be a factor.
    • Tire Problems: While less likely given the specific wear pattern and pulling, a defective tire could also contribute. However, uneven wear usually points to the vehicle's geometry.
    • Brake Drag: A sticking brake caliper on one side could cause pulling, but typically you'd also feel heat from the wheel and possibly a burning smell, and the wear would be more general across the tire, not just the inner edge.
  2. Diagnostics:
    • Visual Inspection: Carefully inspect all suspension components for any signs of damage, looseness, or torn rubber boots.
    • Tire Pressure: While unlikely to cause such severe uneven wear and pulling on its own, always ensure all tires are inflated to the manufacturer's recommended pressure.
    • Professional Alignment Check: The most crucial diagnostic step is a professional four-wheel alignment check. This will measure all angles (camber, caster, toe) and identify if they are out of specification.
    • OBD-II Scan: There are no OBD-II codes directly related to mechanical alignment issues. However, ensure no TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) codes (e.g., C0077 - Low Tire Pressure) are present, as incorrect pressure can exacerbate wear.
  3. When to See a Shop: It is imperative to address alignment issues promptly. Ignoring them will lead to premature and expensive tire replacement, and can also affect your vehicle's handling, stability, and braking performance. A professional alignment shop or dealership can perform a precise alignment, identify any worn suspension parts that might be causing the issue, and correct them. Since your vehicle is relatively new, it's worth checking if any of these issues are covered under your factory warranty.
