Vehicle: 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L

Hey everyone, I'm having some serious issues with my 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L's transmission. Lately, it's been shifting really hard, especially between 2nd and 3rd gear, and sometimes it feels like it hesitates before engaging a gear. It's gotten pretty noticeable and makes the ride quite uncomfortable.

The check engine light came on a few days ago, and when I scanned it, I got a P0700 code, which points to a transmission control system malfunction. I'm worried this might be a big problem. Has anyone else experienced this with their Pacifica? What was the fix?

I've heard about some software updates for Pacifica transmissions, but I'm not sure if that applies to my specific issue or if it's something more mechanical. Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated before I take it to the dealer.

It sounds like you're dealing with a common concern for some Pacifica owners regarding transmission performance. The P0700 code indicates that the Transmission Control Module (TCM) has detected a fault within the transmission system and has illuminated the Check Engine Light. This is often a generic code that points to other, more specific transmission-related codes stored in the TCM.

Here's what you should consider:

  1. Retrieve Specific Codes: While P0700 is present, there are likely more specific transmission fault codes (P07xx or P08xx) stored in the TCM. A more advanced scanner, often found at a dealership or a specialized transmission shop, can read these specific codes. These will pinpoint the exact nature of the transmission issue, such as solenoid problems, sensor failures, or clutch pack wear.
  2. Software Updates: Chrysler has released several software updates for the 9-speed automatic transmission in the Pacifica. These updates often address shifting logic, rough shifts, and hesitation. It's possible your vehicle is due for one. A dealership can check for and apply any relevant Transmission Control Module (TCM) software updates.
  3. Fluid Level and Condition: An incorrect transmission fluid level or degraded fluid can cause shifting problems. While less common in newer sealed units, it's worth checking if possible or having a technician inspect it.
  4. Valve Body Issues: In some cases, issues with the transmission valve body can lead to rough shifting. This component controls the fluid flow within the transmission. Less frequently, internal transmission wear or component failure could be the root cause.

When to See a Shop: Given the P0700 code and noticeable shifting issues, it's highly recommended to have your Pacifica inspected by a qualified Chrysler dealership or a reputable transmission specialist as soon as possible. Driving with significant transmission problems can lead to further, more costly damage. They can perform a comprehensive diagnostic, retrieve all fault codes, and determine if a software update, repair, or more extensive service is required.
