Vehicle: 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid

Help! My 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, with only 25,000 miles, is having all sorts of electrical issues. The 'Service Electronic Throttle Control' light came on, the navigation screen went blank, and then the power sliding doors stopped working. I pulled out my scanner, and it's showing a U0140 code, which says 'Lost Communication with Body Control Module (BCM)'.

I tried disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes to reset everything, but the problems persist. Could this be a loose connection somewhere, or is the BCM itself failing? It's a relatively new car, so I'm really surprised by this.

Has anyone experienced a U0140 code or similar widespread electrical issues on their newer Pacifica? What was the resolution? I'm worried about driving it like this.

The U0140 code, indicating 'Lost Communication with Body Control Module (BCM),' on your 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is a serious diagnostic trouble code that explains the widespread electrical issues you're experiencing. The BCM is essentially the brain for many of your vehicle's electronic functions, so a communication loss will affect numerous systems. Here's a breakdown of potential causes:

  1. Wiring and Connectors: The most common cause for communication codes is an issue with the wiring harness or connectors leading to and from the BCM. This could be: a loose connector, corroded pins, or damaged wiring (e.g., chafed wires, rodent damage). Given it's a newer vehicle, a manufacturing defect or a simple loose connection is possible.
  2. BCM Power and Ground: The BCM requires stable power and ground connections to operate correctly. A blown fuse, a faulty relay, or a poor ground connection to the BCM can cause it to lose communication with other modules.
  3. Faulty Body Control Module (BCM): While less common on a newer vehicle, the BCM itself can fail internally. This would lead to a complete loss of communication and the numerous symptoms you're seeing. This is usually a last resort diagnosis after ruling out wiring and power supply issues.
  4. CAN Bus Issues: The BCM communicates with other modules via the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. A short or open circuit in the CAN bus wiring itself can disrupt communication with the BCM and other modules. This would require advanced electrical diagnostics.

When to See a Shop: Due to the complexity of modern vehicle electrical systems and the critical role of the BCM, it is strongly recommended to take your 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid to a Chrysler dealership or a highly qualified automotive electrical specialist as soon as possible. Driving with a compromised BCM can lead to unpredictable system failures and potential safety hazards. They have the specialized diagnostic tools (like WiTECH) to properly diagnose CAN bus issues, test BCM functionality, and access manufacturer-specific service bulletins or recalls that might be related to this issue on newer models.
