Vehicle: 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L

Hey everyone,

I've been noticing a really annoying squeaking and creaking noise coming from the front end of my 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L. It's most noticeable when I go over speed bumps, uneven pavement, or even when turning the steering wheel slowly at low speeds. It sounds like old bed springs sometimes!

I've tried listening closely, but it's hard to pinpoint exactly where it's coming from. It seems to be more prominent on the driver's side, but I can't be certain. The van has about 65,000 miles on it now.

Has anyone else experienced this with their Pacifica? What was the cause, and more importantly, what was the fix? I'm hoping it's something relatively simple and not a major suspension overhaul. Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated before I take it to the dealer.

A persistent squeaking or creaking noise from the front suspension of your 2020 Chrysler Pacifica is a common complaint and usually points to worn or dry suspension components. While annoying, it's important to address these issues promptly to prevent further wear or potential safety concerns.

Here are the most common causes and troubleshooting steps:

  1. Worn Sway Bar Bushings or End Links: These are very common culprits. The rubber bushings that hold the sway bar in place can dry out, crack, or wear down, causing metal-on-metal or rubber-on-metal squeaking. The end links, which connect the sway bar to the control arms, can also wear out and cause noise.
  2. Lower Control Arm Bushings: The large rubber bushings where the lower control arms attach to the subframe can deteriorate over time, leading to creaking, especially over bumps or during steering input.
  3. Ball Joints: Both upper and lower ball joints can wear out. If the protective boot tears, dirt and water can get in, leading to corrosion and noise. A worn ball joint can cause a clunking or creaking sound.
  4. Strut Mounts: The strut mounts at the top of the suspension assembly can wear out, causing noise when the suspension articulates or when turning the steering wheel.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Visual Inspection: With the vehicle safely on jack stands, visually inspect all rubber bushings (sway bar, control arms) for cracks, tears, or signs of excessive wear. Check ball joint boots for tears.
  • Lubrication Test (Temporary): Sometimes, spraying a silicone-based lubricant on accessible rubber bushings can temporarily quiet the noise, helping you pinpoint the source. If the noise stops, even briefly, you've likely found the problematic bushing.
  • Bounce Test: Push down firmly on the front fender and release. Listen for the noise as the suspension compresses and rebounds. This can sometimes highlight issues with struts or strut mounts.

When to See a Shop:

If you're uncomfortable performing these checks yourself, or if the noise persists after basic troubleshooting, it's highly recommended to take your Pacifica to a qualified mechanic. Suspension components are critical for vehicle safety and handling. A professional can use specialized tools (like a chassis ear) to accurately diagnose the source of the noise and recommend the appropriate repairs. Ignoring suspension noises can lead to accelerated wear on other components, compromised handling, and potentially unsafe driving conditions. Early diagnosis can often prevent more costly repairs down the line.
