Vehicle: 2023 Ford Escape ST-Line

My 2023 Ford Escape ST-Line, 1.5L EcoBoost, has a problem with the front passenger side power window. It just stopped working completely. Neither the driver's side switch nor the passenger side switch can operate it. All other windows are working fine.

I've checked the fuse box, but I'm not sure which fuse specifically controls that window. I also tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, hoping for a reset, but no luck. Could it be the motor, the switch, or something else entirely? It's a brand new car, so this is pretty annoying!

  1. Check Fuses: Consult your 2023 Ford Escape's owner's manual to locate the fuse box diagrams (usually under the hood and/or inside the cabin). Identify the fuse(s) for the power windows, specifically looking for individual window fuses if listed, or a main power window circuit fuse. Visually inspect the fuse for a broken filament. You can also use a fuse tester.
  2. Test the Switches: Since neither switch operates the window, it's less likely to be just one switch, but it's good to confirm. Sometimes, the master switch on the driver's door can fail and affect other windows. If you have access to a wiring diagram, you can test for power at the switch connectors.
  3. Inspect Wiring: Open the door and inspect the wiring harness that runs from the body into the door jamb. This area is prone to wire fatigue and breakage due to repeated opening and closing of the door. Look for pinched, frayed, or broken wires.
  4. Window Motor: If the fuse is good and there's power to the switch, the window motor itself is a likely culprit. Motors can fail due to wear, internal shorts, or getting stuck. You might hear a faint click from the door when trying to operate the window, but no movement.
  5. Body Control Module (BCM): The BCM controls many body electrical functions, including windows. A fault in the BCM or its programming could prevent a window from operating. This would likely be accompanied by B-codes (Body codes) if scanned with an advanced diagnostic tool.
  6. Causes: Common causes include a blown fuse, a faulty window motor, a broken wire in the door jamb, a defective window switch (less likely if both fail), or a BCM issue.
  7. When to See a Shop: Given it's a 2023 model, if a simple fuse check or visual inspection of wiring doesn't reveal the problem, it's highly recommended to take it to a Ford dealership. It's still under warranty, and they have the specialized diagnostic tools to accurately pinpoint whether it's the motor, switch, wiring, or a BCM issue, which can be complex on newer vehicles.
