2020 G70 3.3T CEL with P0420 and P0430 - Catalytic Converter?

Hey everyone,

My Check Engine Light just came on in my 2020 Genesis G70 3.3T Sport. I used my OBD-II scanner and pulled two codes: P0420 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1) and P0430 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2).

I'm a bit worried because I know these codes often point to a failing catalytic converter. The car seems to be running fine, no noticeable loss of power or strange noises. I did just fill up with gas yesterday, but it was at my usual station with premium fuel.

Is it definitely the catalytic converter, or could something else be causing these codes? What should I check before I panic and take it to the dealer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
