Vehicle: 2022 GMC Acadia Denali

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me out with an issue on my 2022 GMC Acadia Denali. Lately, I've been hearing a distinct clunking or rattling noise coming from the front end, especially when going over speed bumps or uneven pavement. It's not super loud, but it's definitely noticeable and a bit concerning for a relatively new vehicle.

It seems to happen more on the driver's side, but it's hard to tell exactly. The steering feels fine, and there's no pulling or anything like that. I've tried looking under the car myself, but I don't see anything obviously loose.

Any ideas what this could be? Could it be a sway bar link or something similar? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

ClearTheCode admin answer: A clunking or rattling noise over bumps from the front end of your 2022 GMC Acadia is a common complaint that points to worn or loose suspension components. Even on newer vehicles, certain parts can wear prematurely due to manufacturing defects, driving conditions, or even just bad luck.

Here are the most likely culprits:

  1. Sway Bar End Links: These are very common failure points. The ball joints in the end links can wear out, causing a clunking noise as the sway bar moves. This often manifests over small, sharp bumps or when turning.
  2. Strut Mounts/Bearings: The top strut mounts or their associated bearings can wear out, leading to clunking or popping noises, especially when turning the steering wheel or going over bumps.
  3. Lower Control Arm Bushings: Worn bushings in the lower control arms can allow excessive movement, resulting in a clunking sound.
  4. Ball Joints: While less common on a 2022 model, worn lower or upper ball joints can also produce clunking noises.
  5. Loose Components: Sometimes, it can be as simple as a loose bolt on a suspension component or even a loose heat shield.

When to See a Shop:

  • It's highly recommended to have a professional inspect this. Diagnosing suspension noises can be tricky without the vehicle on a lift and the ability to articulate suspension components.
  • A technician can perform a thorough inspection, checking for play in ball joints, tie rods, sway bar links, and bushings. They can also check the struts and strut mounts.
  • Ignoring these noises can lead to accelerated wear on other components and potentially compromise vehicle handling and safety. Early diagnosis can prevent more costly repairs down the line.
