Vehicle: 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT
Hey everyone,
My check engine light came on in my 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT, 5.3L V8. I hooked up my OBD-II scanner and it's showing a P0420 code: "Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)".
The truck seems to be running fine, no noticeable loss of power or strange noises. Fuel economy might be slightly worse, but it's hard to tell for sure.
I'm wondering if this is definitely a bad catalytic converter, or if there are other things I should check first? I've heard oxygen sensors can sometimes trigger this code. Any advice on troubleshooting before I take it to a shop for a potentially expensive repair?
