2022 Yukon Denali - Multiple Warning Lights & Erratic Speedometer

Vehicle: 2022 GMC Yukon Denali

My 2022 GMC Yukon Denali (6.2L V8) just started acting up. The ABS light, Traction Control light, and Stability Control light all came on simultaneously. On top of that, the speedometer is acting really erratic, jumping all over the place or sometimes just dropping to zero while I'm driving.

I haven't scanned for codes yet, but this feels like a sensor issue. Could it be a wheel speed sensor? It's a relatively new vehicle, so I'm surprised to see these kinds of problems already.

Has anyone with a newer GMC experienced this? What was the cause and fix?

It's definitely frustrating to experience multiple warning lights and an erratic speedometer on a newer vehicle like your 2022 GMC Yukon Denali. Your suspicion about a sensor issue is very likely correct, as these symptoms are highly indicative of a problem within the wheel speed sensor or related ABS/Traction Control system.

Common Causes for These Symptoms:

  1. Faulty Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS): Each wheel has a sensor that monitors its rotational speed. The ABS, Traction Control, Stability Control, and speedometer all rely on this data. If one or more WSS fails, sends erratic signals, or has a damaged wire, it can cause all the symptoms you're describing.
  2. Damaged WSS Wiring/Connector: The wiring leading to the wheel speed sensor can get damaged from road debris, corrosion, or even during routine maintenance (e.g., brake jobs). A loose or corroded connector can also interrupt the signal.
  3. Damaged ABS Tone Ring: The tone ring (or reluctor ring) is a toothed wheel that the WSS reads. If it's cracked, bent, or has debris on it, the sensor will get an incorrect reading.
  4. Faulty ABS Module: While less common on newer vehicles, a failing ABS control module could also cause these widespread issues. However, WSS problems are usually the first suspect.

What You Can Do:

  • Scan for Codes: Even without a Check Engine Light, a more advanced OBD-II scanner can often read codes from the ABS module. This will likely pinpoint which specific wheel speed sensor is at fault (e.g., C0035 for Left Front WSS).
  • Visual Inspection: If safe, visually inspect the wheel speed sensors and their wiring at each wheel for obvious damage or loose connections.

When to See a Shop:

Given the multiple safety-related systems affected (ABS, Traction Control), it's highly recommended to have your Yukon Denali inspected by a professional mechanic or a GMC dealership as soon as possible. They have specialized diagnostic equipment to:

  • Accurately read and interpret ABS/Traction Control specific fault codes.
  • Monitor live data from each wheel speed sensor to identify which one is malfunctioning.
  • Perform a thorough inspection of the sensors, wiring, and tone rings.

Driving with compromised ABS and Traction Control can reduce your vehicle's safety capabilities, especially in emergency braking or slippery conditions.
