2022 Accord Hybrid - LKAS System Malfunction Warning Light

Vehicle: 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid

I'm getting a "Lane Keeping Assist System Problem" warning light on my dashboard in my 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid. It pops up intermittently, sometimes staying on for a whole drive, sometimes just for a few minutes. When it's on, the LKAS and adaptive cruise control don't work.

I've checked the windshield for dirt or obstructions around the camera, but it seems clear. Is there a way to reset this, or could it be a faulty sensor? I'm worried about safety features not working correctly.

It's a relatively new car, so I'm surprised to see this kind of issue already.

ClearTheCode admin answer:

The Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) is a critical safety feature, and a malfunction warning should be addressed promptly. The system relies on a camera mounted at the top of the windshield and sometimes radar sensors.

1. Initial Checks:

  • Windshield Cleanliness: Even a small smudge, bug, or crack directly in front of the camera (behind the rearview mirror) can obstruct its view. Ensure the entire windshield is spotless.
  • Environmental Factors: Heavy rain, snow, fog, or direct sunlight can temporarily impair the system. If the warning appears only under these conditions, it might be normal operation.
  • Battery Health: A weak 12V battery can sometimes cause various electronic systems to malfunction or throw false warnings. Have your battery tested.

2. Potential Causes for Persistent Issues:

  • Camera Misalignment/Calibration: If the windshield has been replaced, or if the vehicle has been in a minor fender bender, the camera might need recalibration. This is a precise procedure requiring specialized equipment.
  • Faulty Camera or Radar Sensor: The camera unit itself or the radar sensor (often located behind the front grille emblem) could be defective.
  • Wiring Issues: Damaged or corroded wiring to the camera or radar unit can cause intermittent communication problems.
  • Software Glitch: Less common, but a software issue within the Honda Sensing suite could cause false warnings.

When to See a Shop:

  • Given that this is a safety-critical system, it's highly recommended to have your 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid inspected by a Honda dealership. They have the specialized diagnostic tools to read specific codes related to the LKAS (e.g., U0300 for software incompatibility, C1A60 for LKAS camera malfunction, or codes related to radar sensor issues). They can accurately diagnose whether it's a calibration issue, a faulty component, or a wiring problem. Do not delay, as your active safety features are compromised.
