Vehicle: 2022 Honda Accord Touring

Hey everyone,

My 2022 Honda Accord Touring has been giving me headaches with its infotainment system. Lately, the screen freezes up completely, usually when I'm using Apple CarPlay. It'll just stop responding to touch, and the audio might cut out or loop. Sometimes it reboots itself, but other times I have to pull over and turn the car off and on to get it working again.

Also, Apple CarPlay disconnects randomly, even with a brand new, official Apple cable. It's not just CarPlay; sometimes the built-in navigation or radio will freeze too. I've tried doing a soft reset (holding the power button), but it's only a temporary fix. Is this a known issue with the newer Accords? Could it be a software bug or something more serious with the head unit itself?

Any advice or similar experiences would be helpful!

Infotainment system issues like freezing and CarPlay disconnections are frustrating, especially in a newer vehicle like your 2022 Accord Touring. These problems often stem from a few common areas:

  1. Software Glitch: The most frequent cause is a software bug within the infotainment system itself. Manufacturers often release updates to address these. Check your Honda dealer or the Honda owner's website for any available software updates for your specific head unit.
  2. Corrupt Data/Cache: Sometimes, accumulated data or a corrupt cache can cause instability. While you've done a soft reset, a factory reset (if available in your settings menu) might clear out deeper issues. Be aware this will erase personal settings and paired devices.
  3. USB Port/Cable Issues: Even with a new cable, a faulty USB port in the car can cause intermittent disconnections. Try a different USB port if your Accord has one, or inspect the current port for any debris or damage.
  4. Phone Compatibility/Software: Ensure your iPhone's iOS is up to date. Sometimes, an older iOS version can conflict with newer car firmware. Also, try another iPhone if possible to rule out your phone as the source.
  5. Hardware Failure: In some cases, the head unit itself or a related module (like the audio control unit) could be failing. This is less common in newer vehicles but not impossible.

OBD Codes: Infotainment issues typically don't trigger standard powertrain OBD-II codes. However, a Honda-specific diagnostic tool can often pull manufacturer-specific codes (B-codes or U-codes) related to communication errors within the vehicle's network (CAN bus) or specific module failures if the problem is hardware-related.

When to See a Shop: If software updates and resets don't resolve the problem, or if the issue is becoming more frequent and severe, it's time to visit a Honda dealership. They have specialized diagnostic equipment to:

  • Check for and install the latest firmware updates.
  • Perform deeper diagnostics on the infotainment unit and related modules.
  • Identify if a hardware component needs replacement under warranty.
